Our SonSparks Lab VBS at Eastmont was a huge success! We saw children come to know Jesus, grow in their faith, encouraged in the hope of Gods promises, and gain friends that will last a lifetime. Yes, VBS was a lot of sacrifice and hard work for many, but know that your reward is in heaven and lives were changed because of it. Thank you coordinators, teachers, leaders, guides, and staff for your dedication and Christ-like attitudes. We couldnt have done it without you!

    BUILDING LOCK-UP

  • From Your Pastor,

Some Baptist churches have a system of rotating deacon leadership. After a few years of service the deacon takes one year off. This prevents burnout and allows for new deacons to serve.

Other churches seem to use a different method. Instead of rotating deacons they rotate pastors. Every few years they dismiss one and hire another. One church changed pastors so often they put the new pastors name in chalk on the road sign. I mentioned that one Sunday and in the next worship service one of our deacons was sitting on the front row with a chalk eraser in his hand (very funny).

As I begin my 29th year, I realize how richly blessed I am to be your pastor. My ministry here has been contingent on two factors. I serve here because of (1) a calling from God and because of (2) permission from you. If either of those change my role as pastor should change too. Each day I wake up, I must hear the Lords trumpet call to serve.

Dr. Elmer Nielsen was my pastor when I was ordained. Ill never forget the wise words he gave me before my first sermon. Mike, people will forgive a lot of bad sermons if they know you love them. Boy was he right! He then added You cant just say you love them. You must show you love them.

God seems to call two kinds of pastors these days. One is a Big Rancher. He has 1000 acres to manage. He doesnt know all the sheep. It is just too large. But He is the Rancher/Pastor.

Then there is the Shepherd/Pastor. He serves about 40 acres. He knows all the sheep by name. This is the challenge. I have a shepherd/pastor heart but God has grown us into a ranch of over 1000 sheep. My heart longs to know you by name and minister with you. But the task is overwhelming at times.

Here is the solution. Remember how God and you both called me as your Pastor? Well, it is both God and you that have enabled me to be the Pastor. Without you I could not have lasted these 29 years. Not even 29 days. God supplies the strength, but you have shared the ministry load. You have visited, prayed, given, shared, worked and ministered.

Guess what? That has been a key to Eastmonts strength all these years. Not one or a few persons doing the work, but all the people doing Gods work together. All without applause or attention. All for the glory of God.

My Request. A community has to see and care for all of its people. Sometimes those who need the most help, are the hardest to see. Those who cry the least, often suffer the most. Im asking you to do something very difficult. Im asking you to seek out those in our church or our community who are in need. Find a way to graciously encourage or help them. Maybe it is someone you havent seen in years. Or maybe it is someone you pass each week. There is an impulse to turn away from a beggar. We all have felt that. Im asking you to continue to be the hands and feet of Christ. Just as you have done this for the past 29 years, do it now even more. The 20 minutes you spend with someone can make an eternity of difference for them and you.

In these years together I found something odd. The best way to minister to you is not to focus entirely on your individual needs, but to focus on the needs of others. There is nothing more satisfying than making a positive eternal difference in the lives of others. Lets continue that. Jesus and me is great. Jesus and we is better.

    Better Together,

    Brother Mike
