English 10 Required Texts: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Assignment: Read The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Although set in drastically different times and locations, both texts share a common theme: the importance of literature. As you read, keep typed notes of at least 10 quotes from each book that illustrate this theme; include explanations of how each quote illustrates the theme. Use MLA format (including the citation for each quote). I expect your work to be of a high caliber, the physical condition of the paper to be clean (not wrinkled or stained), and the MLA format to be correct. Remember to staple your work. Anything less will be considered late. This assignment is due the first day of class. Come prepared. On the first day of class, you will be able to use your notes to write an in-class compare/contrast essay in which you explore how the theme is developed in the two novels. At the end of the first day of class, I will collect your notes and your in-class essay. On the second day of school, you can expect a quiz covering basic literary terms in relation to the novels you have read, such as protagonist, antagonist, figurative language, motif, etc. Should you have questions or concerns over the summer, you may emaiI me at [email protected] .
