Learning at ISM

We have talked previously about what it means to be a community of

learners, with our students, teachers and parents connuing on their

journey of skill and knowledge acquision in various domains.

Once again, the next two weeks present another two great

opportunies for this acquision. From today we have Ron Ritchhart

from Harvard School of Educaon spending six days with our ISM community, as we focus on ‘visible thinking’ and how we create a

culture of thinking in our classrooms and homes.

The Harvard School of Educaon defines Visible Thinking as, “… a

fl exible and systema c research‐based approach to integra ng the

development of students' thinking with content learning across

subject ma ers. An extensive and adaptable collec on of prac ces,

Visible Thinking has a double goal: on the one hand, to cul vate

students' thinking skills and disposi ons, and, on the other, to deepen

content learning. By thinking disposi ons, we mean curiosity, concern

for truth and understanding, a crea ve mindset, not just being skilled

but also alert to thinking and learning opportuni es and eager to take them.”

As well as spending this weekend with a group of ISM teachers, Ron

will be co‐planning and co‐teaching with various groups of teachers

next week, and then holding a parent coff ee session next Tuesday,

November 11th, starng at 7:45 am in the Lile Theater.

The following Tuesday, November 18th, we will be holding an

Elementary parent coff ee morning, where we will focus on

Mathemacs. In parcular, we will be looking at how we support your

children in gaining fluency with their basic math facts. The session will

show the current research out of Stanford University, leading to the

praccal applicaon of this in our classrooms and at home. The

session will be held at 7:45 am in the Lile Theater. We hope to see

you there.

Leaving ISM?

Please be reminded that parents are obliged to officially inform the School in wring through a WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICA‐

TION FORM if their children will not be returning for the 2nd Semester. Families are encouraged to submit the Withdrawal No fi ‐

ca on Form, stang the student's final date of aendance, immediately.

For students who will be withdrawing at the end of the school year, forms must be submied on or before May 8. Failure

to submit the form in a mely manner may lead to a deducon of US$ 1,000 from the Facilies Upgrade Deposit (FUD), in

compensaon for having held a space for your child, prevenng the School from off ering that space to another candidate prior to

the holiday break.

The Withdrawal No fi ca on Form can be obtained from the Admissions Office or directly from the ISM website under Admission

2nd season pracce schedules are now posted to the ATAC blog and on noce boards around school. 2nd season sports for MS/HS

are; Basketball, Rugby, Touch, Tennis and Swimming. 2nd season will run from Nov 3 unl Jan 28th, 2015.

This Friday Nov 7 sees the beginning of our rugby and basketball programs with HS local league rugby from 3:45pm vs BSM and Faith teams and our HS JV/Varsity basketball teams travel away to Faith for their season opening matches. Good luck to all teams!

Sailfish is very busy aer the break with the 3rd leg of the Bonifacio Cup held yesterday at ISM and this Saturday morning is the ISM

Sailfish Aquathon, please check the Sailfish blog for more details and sign‐up informaon for the aquathon if you wish to join in as a

late entry.

Please note the new pracce mes for the following ATAC programs: ATAC all year round teams‐ 3:15‐4:30. Sailfish/Gymnascs

and all HS seasonal teams now conclude pracce at 4:50pmeach day. MS seasonal teams 3:10‐4:45pm. The last bus is

now 4:55pm and all aer school programs will conclude by 4:50pm in order to try and clear the campus prior to 5pm due to the

ever increasing traffic concerns in our area.

Parents and students please take some me to peruse the ATAC blog it has a wide variety of informaon and links to our sports

and acvies program. If you have any quesons regarding the compeve program of sports at ISM aer reading the informaon

on the blog please send an email to [email protected] and I will endeavor to assist you as best I can.

Bearcat Den‐ drop by our fantasc spirit store. There is a range of new products (mouth guards and rugby balls for 2nd season) and

items to purchase including items from our service partners. Bearcat Den hours of operaon‐ 7am‐4pm Mon‐Fri.

The ATAC game schedule pdf which is updated regularly by Triz Gonzalez (ATAC Athlecs Coordinator) gives the most up to date

informaon on where/when and who our Bearcat teams will be playing throughout the school year. Access to the game schedule is

via the ISM parent portal. Use this link to access the parent portal, log in with your user name/password and look for the ATAC

Game Schedule tab. Remember to refresh the page when the pdf schedule appears so you view the most current schedule.
