Types of application where different storage maps to
The combination of the current BSO and ASO storage mechanism provides a lot more flexibility in optimizing data storage to balance the application needs for fast query response, extensive dimensionality, sophisticated analytics, low data latency, etc.

Delivering End-to-End Support
Presentation Title
Orange cube/areas indicate applications that benefit from Block Storage. The dark gray cube/areas indicate applications that benefit from Aggregate Storage. The combination of storage options means end to end support for any analytic application need. Regardless of which storage mechanism is used end users can use the interfaces they already know to access information in any application. A single solution across departments and divisions enables companies to lower training and support costs by leveraging the Hyperion training and knowledge they have already invested in their IT and End User communities.

Member Formulas
Use the Formula Editor to create formulas
Convert existing formulas from block storage formula syntax to MDX syntax
"Sales" / "Net Profit";
[sales] / [net profit]
Presentation Title
Formulas are written with MDX
Hyperion’s MaxL DML is an expanded version of MDX to suit Essbase databases
Formulas are applied directly to members in the Accounts dimension only
Formulas can not be placed in a calculation script
MDX formulas must always use a numeric value expression
A numeric value expression is any combination of functions, operators and member names
You can use functions that return members, sets and Boolean values embedded in a formula that ultimately returns a numeric value
A numeric value expression calculates a value, tests for a condition or performs a mathematical operation
The result is a value
Use the Formula Editor to create formulas
Analytic Services includes MDX-based syntax checking, this happens automatically when you save the formula. The results of the syntax check display in the Message panel in the Essbase Administration Services interface.
