How did you attract/address your audience? My target audience for my romantic comedy are mainly women between the ages of 18-30 who are likely to relate to Amy’s character the protagonist. Therefore my product is ideal for women of this age range to watch it and enjoy it as well as feel connected to it. My product is targeted at women of these ages therefore I address issues that women of these ages are likely to relate to. Therefore my product will attract my audience. The 3 main components I used in my product to address or attract my target audience where 1. Identification with the characters- Amy my protagonist and the things the audience learn about her in the first 2 minutes. 2. Narrative Pleasures 3. Mise-en-Scene 1. Identification with the Characters My female target audience can identify with Amy’s character as they may feel they have been through a similar situation where they get friend zoned by one their closest male friends and end up finding out they have a girlfriend breaking their heart. This may sound like a typical Rom-Com heroine however it is a formula that always works and she is someone who is relatable. Amy is not an unrealistic character. She has a best friend Banni who she tells everything similarly every girl at that age is likely to have a best friend who they tell everything. She is presented Another character who has very short screen time but my audience can relate to is Banni. She is presented as Amy’s best friend, someone who Amy tells every secret. The conventional best friend in the romantic comedy is seen in nearly every romantic comedy film one has ever watched. Banni is shown warning Liam is Amy’s best male friend introduced in the in first 50 seconds through voiceover. He is kept hidden until he is shown. He comes across as round the mill stereotypical average looking guy. However he surprises Amy with introducing the hot girl as his girlfriend. Liam does not challenge the nerd conventions, a nerd with a Katie, the beautiful and attractive girlfriend of Liam. The stereotype of the slightly nerdy and average looking guy getting the hot girl is clearly played out in my product. She in contrast to Amy’s fashion sense

The 3 main components I used in my product to address or attract my target audience where

1. Identification with the characters- Amy my protagonist and the things the audience learn about her in the first 2 minutes.

2. Narrative Pleasures 3. Mise-en-Scene

1. Identification with the Characters

My female target audience can identify with Amy’s character as they may feel they have been through a similar situation where they get friend zoned by one their closest male friends and end up finding out they have a girlfriend breaking their heart. This may sound like a typical Rom-Com heroine however it is a formula that always works and she is someone who is relatable. Amy is not an unrealistic character. She has a best friend Banni who she tells everything similarly every girl at that age is likely to have a best friend who they tell everything. She is presented as cheery and happy go lucky who wears glasses the image you get of her in the first 2 minutes another factor girls can identify with or woman who are like her. The film of course starts of in present time as we see Amy in her wedding dress another common convention of certain romantic comedy films to start off with another factor my target audience would be attracted to. She is

Another character who has very short screen time but my audience can relate to is Banni. She is presented as Amy’s best friend, someone who Amy tells every secret. The conventional best friend in the romantic comedy is seen in nearly every romantic comedy film one has ever watched. Banni is shown warning Amy by asking are ‘Are you sure?’ when she is about to tell Liam her best friend she is in love with him, which every friend is likely to do. Another factor where girls aged around 18 is likely to identify with.

Liam is Amy’s best male friend introduced in the in first 50 seconds through voiceover. He is kept hidden until he is shown. He comes across as round the mill stereotypical average looking guy. However he surprises Amy with introducing the hot girl as his girlfriend. Liam does not challenge the nerd conventions, a nerd with a hot girlfriend. Even though my Rom-Com would predominantly have a female audience Liam can be the guy that the secondary audience of men and boys could relate to if they were to watch.

Katie, the beautiful and attractive girlfriend of Liam. The stereotype of the slightly nerdy and average looking guy getting the hot girl is clearly played out in my product. She in contrast to Amy’s fashion sense wears a dress with a blue blazer showing her feminine fashion sense. My females target audience can relate to her as they may have had a girl like that in their lives or may be Katie themselves.

These characters are interwoven through different relationships. Their age and experiences so far in life move on as it starts off with them being as teenagers and eventually moving on to them becoming adults as 10 years later on at the end of the sequence signifies. My target audience are addressed in these four characters lives somewhere and the situations they are a part of. Therefore this is prime factor in attracting or addressing my audience.

2. Narrative Pleasures

Enigma- At the beginning of the opening we are not shown any photos of Liam or who Amy may be talking about. We don’t even know if he is a girl or a boy. The spikes the interest of the audience

especially my target audience as they would want to know more about the protagonist and who she is talking about. This enigma draws the audience in allowing them a deeper connection with Amy’s

character.

Hook- The hook following on from the enigma is further responsible for creating suspense. For my Rom-Com the hook is Katie, Liam girlfriend introduced to the audience right at the end. This further keeps spikes the audience’s attention as to what will happen to Amy know that she knows the ‘love

of her life’ has a girlfriend. This hook will keep the audience guessing and want to find out more as to what will happen to Amy.

Cliff-Hanger- The introduction of Katie’s character where leaves the audience watching more as they reach a cliff-hanger. The 10 years forward title right at the end of the 2 minute opening sequence wants the audience to watch more. A further attraction for my target audience.

3. Mise-en-Scene

Setting- Friend meeting in a park is very common among 18 years old that’s how old the characters are right at the beginning of my two minute opening sequence. A park is viewed as a hang out place among teenagers so this was the perfect location to film my product. Another reason why my female target audience would be attracted to my product in order to watch it.

Costume- All of my characters are dressed casually, indicating they are young. This is key factor as they eventually do grow older in the film. The dress sense plays an indicator to their age.
