WELCOME TO THE NEWPORT MANSIONSWINE & FOOD FESTIVAL.
It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since we firststarted this experiment, to see if people would be interested in attending a small wine and food festival on the grounds of theNewport Mansions. The response was overwhelmingly YES!
Creating any new event is hard work, especially in an arenawith so much quality competition. We also made it difficult forourselves by scheduling our Festival in the midst of the wine harvesting season, when winery operators are at their busiest. Convincing wineries and busy chefs to take a leap of faith with uson this new venture was challenging, especially since we were learning as we went along too.
But it didn’t take long for everyone to realize that we hadsomething special here in Newport, and the Newport MansionsWine & Food Festival has grown steadily since, attracting the best in the industry year after year. And for that steady support we are grateful.
This year, we continue in that tradition of bringing our guests the best of the best. The incomparable Jacques Pépin has been a frequent participant, and we are thrilled to have him backagain this year along with his talented daughter Claudine. Another sign of how far we’ve come isthe return of Martha Stewart for the second year in a row. Martha has a special fondness for Newport, and told us she enjoyed the Festival so much last year that she wanted to return. PairingJacques and Martha in a unique new event on Sunday morning promises to be very special.
FOOD & WINE magazine has been an important part of our growth and success, andwe’re happy to have them back for their 7th year as our Presenting Underwriter. We also welcome several new underwriters, including KitchenAid, Porsche of Warwick, Lynx Grills andNobilo Wines. And we thank all of the many wineries, restaurants, purveyors, special guests andother corporate underwriters who make it possible for us to bring you this event.
The Festival’s 10th anniversary coincides with the 70th anniversary of The Preservation Society of Newport County. Since 1945, we have been protecting, preserving and presentingsome of America’s most important legacy landscapes and buildings, and your patronage helps usto continue fulfilling that mission.
Welcome back to those of you who have been with us before, and to those newcomersamong you, we hope you'll soon learn and agree that the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival is a unique and very special experience. Have fun!
