Dear Fellow Brother Knights, As we move deeper into the Holy Season of Christmas and look forward to the New Year, let all of us look for and embrace any and all opportunities to make our Council stronger with new members and grow with the new visions that these members bring.
Brothers, this is the time that we should give the gift that keeps giving, membership in the Knights of Columbus. Invite a practicing catholic gentleman and his family to be part of the dream of our founder, Fr. Michael McGivney.
Let us all grow stronger in our faith and remember that only you can take your faith away, no one can take it from you.
May God continue to bless you and your families and have a safe Holy Holidays this Christmas. Remember the reason for the Season, his birth - to bring us to new life with the Father.
Blessed and Merry Christmas, Vivat Jesus !

Message from the Chaplain
MONSIGNOR DENNIS LUTERBACH
In the day of creation God said, "Let there be light." In the day of salvation he said, "Your sins are forgiven."
The birth of Jesus is the dawn of the day of salvation; the birth of Jesus means that mankind, expelled from paradise, sees his God once more; the birth of Jesus shows us God’s love beyond all our imagining.
The fault of Adam and Eve was a "happy fault" for it gained for us a Redeemer who is Christ the Lord. God created to share his happiness with us, but even more, the Son of God in becoming man shared in our humanity that we might share in his divinity.
This is both the theme, the very heart of the meaning, both of Christmas and of Easter.
May you know God’s happiness and share it; may you understand and experience God’s love and give it; may you find God’s peace and live it both at Christmas and throughout the New Year.
May God bless you now and always.
Monsignor Dennis Luterbach Chaplain, Knights of Columbus Archbishop Duke Council 6855
Message from the District Deputy
KEVIN PINTO
Dear Worthy Grand Knight Brother Edgar and
members of Council 6855,
As we mark the start of Advent and prepare for the
birth of our Lord, it is a time for prayer and
reflection. The message on our State pin for the
current fraternal year “Endless Prayer” is indeed
appropriate.
We carry the Rosary with us wherever we go. It is a
source of inspiration and strength for us and we
should recommit ourselves to praying it as often as
we can.
You are deserving of the recognition that you
receive through various means for the good that
you do. But you must continue to remind
yourselves that the accolades and awards you
receive is not meant for your personal edification
and gratification, but rather to showcase your good
works as an example to all who seek to do good.
At this holy time of Advent let us remember that
there can be no greater reward than the
satisfaction we draw from doing good for the Glory
of God.
Keep up the good work that your council is known
for and support your Grand Knight to the fullest.
My wife Elaine joins me in wishing you, your wife
Priscilla and all the members and families of council
6855 a Happy and Blessed Christmas.
Vivat Jesus,
Kevin Pinto

NOVEMBER 2010
ROLANDO and GERONIMA TORRALBA
Bro. Rolly has joined the Knights of Columbus six(6) years ago. Since he became a member of our Council, he finds himself involved in activities and programs that he feels himself accomplishing. He ushers regularly at the 9:00am Sunday Mass while his wife, Gie welcomes the parishioners, being a member of the welcoming committee. This couple are constant supporters of our council’s fundraising events and are actively visible in most of our Community and Council affairs. Recently, as parents, they considered giving a gift of membership in the Knights of Columbus to their own son, Brother Raymond Torralba, who had his First Degree Exemplification 4 weeks ago.
Congratulations TORRALBA FAMILY and God Bless !!!
NOVEMBER 2010
MANUEL CANITA A Fourth Degree Knight who transferred from his previous council in the Philippines, Bro. Manny has been in the Order since 1991. A dedicated member of our Council, He actively participates in the church, council and community programs and is a member of our Community Pancake Breakfast Service Team.
He is a regular usher at the 10:30am Sunday Mass together with his wife, Gloria. Both are also members of Couples for Christ.
Since the start of this fraternal year, Bro. Manny has already brought in three(3) Catholic Gentlemen in our Order, one of whom is his very own son, Brother Mark Anthony Canita, who apparently was instrumental in putting up a Columbian Squires in the Philippines.
Congratulations BROTHER MANUEL and keep up the good work !!!

Retirement Balancing Act Think of retirement as a three-legged stool. In order to maintain balance, you need all three legs… or there is a real possibility of a crash! One leg consists of the benefits the government offers you. Debate rages about the viability of future benefits, and my best advice is to stay tuned to the discussion and make sure you are aware of what is planned for those benefits. Any change in future promises should be accounted for when we get to the third leg. The second leg is your company’s pension plan, either defined benefit or defined contribution. Some of these plans, particularly defined benefit plans, are under stress, have been frozen or pared back. Learn how yours works; read the plan description; stay on top of the news coming from the company. On the defined contribution side, become a good investor. Teach yourself the fundamentals of good diversification and know how much you have and when you will need it. Finally, the third leg is the saving you do yourself (like RRSPs and TFSAs, as well as non-registered plans), and this is the only aspect you can control completely. Everyone needs this third leg. It consists of the money you personally set aside on a disciplined basis to help in retirement. You don’t directly control government benefits and you don’t directly manage your company’s pension plan, but you must manage your money and your life. Establish a retirement plan of your own. Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income that you cannot outlive at retirement. That’s right – guarantee you an income you cannot outlive. That really will provide you with peace of mind. As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about the one thing you can do to help yourself. It’s reasonably priced, guaranteed and controlled by someone you trust: you! I’m at 778-837-2317 or [email protected]. Call me – let’s talk.
