BOARDWALK

america’s cup pavilion|SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Off the famous Embarcadero of San Francisco lies the site of the 2011

America’s Cup Pavilion. In this intervention, the existing pier has been

removed to give the impression that the building floats on water. The

project demands for large, flexible spaces, indoor and outdoor, as well as

numerous ‘platforms for viewing’ out to the race and the boats on exhibition.

The inspiration for the project is taken from the abstraction of wind patterns of

the San Francisco Bay area. A model study of these forms (photos on the

left) sparked an interest in planes and volumes, and the interactions between

the two. The resulting building is a continuous volume of spaces in which a folded plane is inserted. The planar element, depending on its location in

relation to the envelope of the building, is sometimes boardwalk,

sometimes balcony, sometimes stage, etc...

sharing two of its sides with both the planned BLMH youth academy and the Drew primary school, the wildlife garden celebrates opportunist ecologies all the while offering platforms of activities for both of the institutions and the public

keeping in mind the restrictive nature of the budget of the BLMH as well as the temporary condition of the project, the proposal offers usage of the tower of the

existing property as lighthouse

as a solution to the dividing impact of the upcoming Crossrail line, a new London train that would connect it to its boroughs although omitting to stop in North Woolwhich, a park in the sky is proposed to bridge this barrier.

the railway becomes a destination instead of a divider and offers an attractive space of leisure.

negotiating the edge condition|N. WOOLWICH, LONDON

Located east of central London, the area of North Woolwhich is home to a large majority of commuters, which has consequently refrained

this neighborhood’s development in communal and public space making. The area also

houses a variety of typologies ranging from industrial, educational, residential, etc...,

creating tension between these juxtaposed environments.

The project asked to come up with a design for a site of our choice that would ultimately negotiate the conflicts within those edge

conditions all the while instigating a sense of community and identity to North Woolwhich.

cny foodcenter|SYRACUSE, NY

The site for this project is interestingly located in between the CNY Regional Market and Syracuse’s northside residential neighborhood. The project aims atcreating a safe, easthetically pleasing and practical connection between the two typologies.

The CNY FoodCenter project focuses on two main issues: ACCESS & ADVOCACY

The project uses the site for a direct and safe route to the Regional Market as well as giving access to on-site healthy food. The project offers both a pedestrian pathway and a vehicular roadway access to the Regional Market, all the while proposing the creation of a system of retail for healthy,

locally grown and affordable prepared meals.

Advocacy presents itself throughout the building in moments of display/visibility of the major processes of the food system: Production, Processing, Distribution, Consumption. Secondly, the project incorporates advocacy in its program through the establishment of an educational

center for cooking and nutrition.
