A sculpture can be made of anything. It can be any shape and size. Can you fold, twist, gather, peg, tie or wrap to make new shapes? What shapes can you make? Can you see through it? What does it feel like? What else can you wrap up? Can you guess what’s inside?

Bumpman Portrait

Bumpman is a character who appears in several sculptures by German artist Paloma Varga Weisz, including one which is currently outside the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, as part of our exhibition Bumped Body. Make your own artwork inspired by Bumpman.

- - Look at the sculpture. Who do you think he is? Where did he come from? Why is he bumpy? Write your ideas down- Draw a portrait of Bumpman using the materials in your bag. Use shading, or different colours to make your drawing look 3D so he looks really bumpy!- Make your own Bumpman sculpture using the modelling clay- D- Draw and sculpt some new characters inspired by Bumpman. What creatures might he be friends with? What strange shapes and textures could you give them?- Write a story or poem about Bumpman (and his friends) to go with your drawings and sculptures

Cardy McCardface loves to find new hiding places — under bed covers, on top of TVs, in the kitchen sink, or even in peoples’ shoes ! Can you hide Cardy McCardface somewhere and see if a grown up can find them?If the grown up is close, you can say WARM, if they are far away you can say COLD.

Where will you hide Cardy McCardface?

How strong do you think this postcard is?

• Could it hold a lollipop stick? • A wooden spoon? • A ball of string? With a grown up; fold this card along the lines to make a zig-zag shape — stand it up and see how many things you can balance on top!

‘X’ marks the spot!“Fearless Pirate! Ye be brave and bold. A bounty awaits, full of curses and gold...”

2. Draw your island. Remember to create an interesting shape to work with, making sure there are lots of bays and beaches for your pirate to explore.

3. Now add your details! Decide where the beach you arrive at is. Does your island have dangerous jagged cliffs? Is there an active volcano in the centre? Secret underwater caves guarded by a giant octopus?

4. Finally you need to bury the treasure! Take a red pen using dashes (- - - -), plan your journey through the island making sure you hit all your locations and finally mark the gold with a big ‘X’.

“Avast, me hearty! Ye be ready for your adventure. Now be brave and journey to find the treasure!”

For this task you will need the roll of paper, pencils and pens.

1. Take the paper and sticky tape a large section to the floor. You can rip the edges to make it look even older!
