Judging by the positive feedback I have received thus far, our distinguished guests definitely enjoyed their time with us, especially when it came to lunchtime! The Upper Prep children also had the opportunity to handle artefacts from the First World War and, having spoken to several parents at the Open Classrooms event on Thursday, the children certainly benefitted from the experience. Whilst I fully understand that the Pre Prep children have yet to immerse themselves in the delights of competitive sports, your feedback would be greatly appreciated in appraising our current provision. As such, a short anonymous survey, created by the PE Department, will be emailed out via Schoolcomms early next week and I would encourage you to complete it as fully as possible. On Monday the Year 3 children joined all of Fairfield in a poignant and moving Remembrance Service; a wreath was laid, the Last Post was played and two minutes silence was observed. Then the children were able to entertain grandparents and invited guests in Eadon Hall with a medley of wartime songs. The double -team of Mr Morris and Mr West were on top form; the children responded with excellent singing and smiling faces. Following this, the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to speak to our visitors about their personal experiences, stories passed from family to family and look at a variety of wartime artefacts. As a reward to our visitors for giving up their time today, we invited them to stay for a traditional Fairfield school dinner.

Issue 533 Autumn Term

Remembrance featured strongly once again this week with children from Reception through to Year 6 gathered

around the quad to pay our respects along with the Year 3 grandparents. Judging by the positive feedback I

have received thus far, our distinguished guests definitely enjoyed their time with us, especially when it came to

lunchtime!

The Upper Prep children also had the opportunity to handle artefacts from the First World War and, having

spoken to several parents at the Open Classrooms event on Thursday, the children certainly benefitted from the

experience.

The week finished on a high with a somewhat spotty theme to proceedings today to raise money for Children in

Need. In addition the children finally got the opportunity to take a walk down memory lane in support of this

term’s chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.

And finally… the next matter I wish to bring to your attention, following the recent announcements in @Fairfield, is our delivery of Physical Education and Games.

On Monday the Year 3 children joined all of Fairfield in a poignant and moving Remembrance Service; a wreath

was laid, the Last Post was played and two minutes silence was observed. Then the children were able to

entertain grandparents and invited guests in Eadon Hall with a medley of wartime songs. The double-team of

Mr Morris and Mr West were on top form; the children responded with excellent singing and smiling faces.

Following this, the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to speak to our visitors about their personal

experiences, stories passed from family to family and look at a variety of wartime artefacts. As a reward to

our visitors for giving up their time today, we invited them to stay for a traditional Fairfield school dinner.

Both the staff and pupils in Year 1 sat mesmerised during a visit from four cadets of the Loughborough Schools Foundation Combined Cadet Force on Thursday. Josh, Emily, Jared and Flo, spoke about their uniforms and all the activities they are busy carrying out every Thursday afternoon. The children asked some very thoughtful questions and were able to talk about all they had already learnt through our work on World War l in the classroom. Earlier in the week the children found out about life as a soldier and tried on some authentic army uniforms for themselves.

The new Pre Prep Council were introduced to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in assembly on Thursday. Mac, Will, Max, Layla, Abigail and Mariam are proud to represent the views and ideas of their peers. We look forward to sharing the ideas recorded on the Wishing Tree.

Thank you to everyone for supporting Children in Need today we raised a fantastic £605.02.

A special well done to our Year 6 Cookery Club who came in especially on Thursday after school to bake and decorate hundreds of biscuits...an incredible effort for Children In Need! Here are some of the children who sold the biscuits at break time. This was one of the quickest sales we have done, with every single biscuit being sold and giving us a grand total of £220 just on biscuits!

Last Friday saw Alyssia, Kamron and Layan compete

in the Final of the Junior Language Competition. The

language for the Final was Kinyarwanda, a very tricky

African language. All three children had worked

tirelessly and were perfectly prepared. The Final was

extremely tense. Alyssia earned a fabulous 3rd

place,

Layan and Kamron both earned top 10 places.

Kamron was awarded the Tudor Award for being the

youngest finalist. There mum also won the parent

teacher competition!

Well done to our finalists and your parents for their

support and encouragement.

King Henry Netball Tournament

Two U10 teams made the journey to LGJS on Wednesday afternoon. Following a thorough warm up, the matches started with gusto! The ‘A’ team had first push back and from the start enjoyed a great deal of possession, allowing them to put into practise the skills that they had been working on in training to keep the ball under pressure. They put together some excellent attacking play; crossing into the D, using the space and some great instinctive hits in front of goal, going into half time 3 goals to the good. The second half brought some changes in formation but it didn’t change the level of performance with the girls adding 3 more goals to the total. The ’B’ team’s match was one that commentators might call ‘a game of two halves!’ Although the girls had possession of the ball, they found it hard to transfer defence into attack. LGJS made the most of the ball in our defensive half and at half time were leading by 2 goals to nil. A few positional changes in the second half and the girls started with great determination. Their work rate was excellent, as they applied pressure on the LGJS attackers and won the ball back all over the pitch. They used some lovely linking play and strong balls into the D to level the score. The girls continued to attack the goal as our opponents hung on for the draw. A most impressive second half by the girls who showed great spirit. Thank you to Mrs Love for umpiring and to our supporters. Results: Fairfield ‘A’ won 6-0 Fairfield ‘B’ drew 2-2 Mrs Webster.

Hockey v LGJS

On Saturday morning, a squad of Year 6 girls assembled at King Henry VIII Prep School in Coventry. As it is our hockey term, it was quite a rarity to play against other schools in this term but a great opportunity to see how our training was going. We played four matches throughout the morning and had the chance to experiment with different combinations but also build confidence and give lots of game time to each member of the squad. Throughout the morning, the girls played some excellent netball; linking and supporting well down the court, turning defence into attack and producing some excellent shots at various points around the circle. We won our first three matches against the hosts, King Henry, Warwick Prep and The Croft. After a short break, we played our final match against Bablake who are renowned for their netball. We started positively but Bablake went into half time 4-1 ahead. We made some tactical changes and put some superb pressure on the Bablake centre court to turn the ball over. The final score was 8-5 to Bablake. The coach from Bablake school was the first to congratulate our girls and say how impressed she was with their performance. A most encouraging morning of netball and we look forward to an exciting netball term. Thank you to King Henry for hosting us, a large group of parents who supported us and Ms Nicol for umpiring. Well done!

Results:

King Henry won 5-3 Warwick Prep won 6-3 The Croft won 5-2 Bablake lost 8-5 Mrs Webster

On Thursday, all the Year 4 girls took part in their annual House Hockey Competition. It was a wonderful afternoon and a delight to watch the girls play with such enthusiasm and team spirit. Furthermore, it gave the parents, who came to support, the opportunity to see how well the girl’s hockey skills have developed throughout the course of the term. The afternoon was completed with some delicious cookies washed down with hot chocolate. Well done to all the teams and a big thank you for such wonderful side line support; it was greatly appreciated.

Mrs Sutcliffe, Mrs Webster, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Alves.

Jovun Leighs (3M) has lost his blazer. It is named on the inside of the inside pocket. Please could

everyone check their blazers over the weekend to see if they have the correct one. Thank you.

The Fairfield boys thoroughly enjoyed their Rugby at The Elms. In a well organised event, Fairfield found themselves in a well matched pool of teams that meant they were able to play in 4 entertaining and well-matched fixtures. The boys showed that they have learnt a great deal since their last fixtures and demonstrated greater confidence in passing the ball into space. Over the course of the afternoon they also gelled defensively and began to put pressure on the opposition with greater aggression and confidence. Their best performance was against Derby Grammar, which was actually the only match that Fairfield lost. Derby had one particularly talented and elusive runner. Despite this the lead changed hands throughout the match with the deciding try leaving a score of 4-5. As ever at this age group there are no tournament winners but for the record the scores were: Match 1: Fairfield 5 Elms Pumas 2 Match 2: Fairfield 3 Birkdale 2 Match 3: Fairfield 4 Derby Grammar 5 Match 4: Fairfield 6 Highfields 3 Our thanks to all the parents who were so supportive of the team. Well done also Oliver who was most deserving of the medal awarded by Nottingham RFC players for his determined and skilful play at the event. Mr Wilbraham.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Children in Need Coffee Morning it was lovely to see you all.

We are busy getting ready for ‘Christmas is Coming’ and looking forward to an exciting evening of Christmas fun - hope you will be able to join us. To reduce the amount of plastic we use, this year we will be switching from a sweetie cup sale to a sweetie bag sale. Paper bags to decorate and fill with sweets will be sent home with your child next week; we would be delighted if you are able to take part. We would also be very grateful for any donations of books, chocolate, teddies, bottles, hamper items, or cakes for the fayre. Thank you!

We are delighted to announce that the PTA has made a £10,000 donation towards the refurbishment of the new Upper Prep Art room. This is a £7,500 donation from direct PTA fundraising over the last year and £2,500 of profits from the Nearly New Shop. This brings the total PTA donation to this exciting project to £25,000. We hope to raise a further £5,000 this year to meet the £30,000 target we have been working towards. Thank you for all your support at our events.
