Fiber Flurry Class ListMost classes will be held at Wyoming First Presbyterian Church.

Some “wet” classes will be in the Wyoming Village Hall kitchen, as noted.

Workshops Cost TimeA Brief intro into Hand Painting Yarn with Sarah Bass of Propanicus Moon: In our few hours together, you will hand paint one skein of yarn, enough to make a small project. You will be painting with brushes and/or squirting from bottles, what ever you feel like at the moment. Wear old clothes or bring an apron that covers you from neck to mid-thigh or knees. This workshop will be held in the Wyoming Village Hall Kitchen. Extra skeins of yarn will be available for $15 - please let us know ahead of time on your registration or via email if you might want one (or more). Please use reference HPY skein.

$47 10:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Dorset Buttons with Robbin Dillon: Dorset buttons started in Dorset, England in the 18th century, and they were originally made from part of a Dorset sheep’s horn. Now, Dorset buttons are a popular button craft that you can make using a plastic or metal ring, some thread and a needle. These buttons make beautiful embellishments for clothing, purses and even furniture. It’s easy to learn how to make a Dorset button, so we’ll be creating some for you to embellish a garment, make jewelry or other items. Your introduction will allow you to try your hand at assorted sizes and materials provided as part of your enrollment – we’ll be using threads, yarns, ribbons, beads – your imagination is encouraged!

$30 10:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Silk Ribbon Embroidery with Linda Franke: Students will learn basic embroidery techniques using silk ribbon and beads to create a piece of art that you can frame, make into a bookmark or incorporate into your own clothing or bag design. We will go over straight stitches, grab stitch, loop stitch, French knots and others. We will also learn to make tulips using ribbon embroidery and beads. No experience necessary.

$18 10:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Introduction to Needle Felting with Nancy Kraus: All you need is a special sharp needle, a piece of foam, a piece of wool for background and a selection of colors of wool to create beautiful needle felted pieces. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the basic technique of flat needle felting and create a sampler and bookmark to take home. Workshops will provide needles, foam, felted wool backing and an assortment of wool colors. Nancy Kraus is a retired children’s librarian and needle felter who enjoys making needle felted landscapes, inspired by photos taken from her travels.

$30 10:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Magic Loop, Two at a Time, Beaded Mitts with Pattie Macauley: Students will make wristers (wrist warmers). Students will learn to knit two items in the round at the same time, including cast on, bindoff, following directions. Students will also learn to place beads following a chart.

Some “wet” classes will be in the Wyoming Village Hall kitchen, as noted.

Workshops Cost TimeMosiac Knitting with Sarah Bass: Using two color mosaic knitting you will learn how to make a fabric that looks like stranded knitting while using one color per row. *special note: this class requires that students prepare “homework” - casting on and knitting a ribbing for a hat. $25 1:00-2:45 p.m.

Create a needle felted picture with Nancy Kraus: *Special note: Bring some pictures which inspire you and choose one to create through needle felting. We will create a small flat needle felted piece and experiment with color mixing and creating different textures. The instructor will also bring nature photographs to work from. Materials: Bring photos to work from. Workshop will provide needles, foam, felted wool backing and an assortment of wool colors.

$30 1:00-2:45 p.m.

Intro to Wet Felting with Suzanne O’Brien: Join Suzanne in learning the basics of wet felting while making a tiny wool vessel. In this class we will view various samples of handmade felt, discuss materials and methods for making successful wool felt, and will be creating your own small vessel with hand dyed wool, soap, water and agitation. *Wet felting is a wet and soapy process. Please wear appropriate clothing, bring an old bath towel, and be prepared for some fun. Also, felting can be somewhat repetitive and labor intensive. Special felting tools will be available to try during class, to ensure success for everyone! This workshop will be held in the Wyoming Village Hall Kitchen. See photo page 4.

$45 1:00-2:45 p.m.

Beginning Shuttle Tatting with Sarah Ballinger: Tatting is a delicate lace consisting of just two knots – the half hitch and the reverse half hitch. Rings and chains are joined together to create the intricate looking designs with just shuttle and thread, making this the perfect portable project. Our beginning tatting class will start with learning the basic knots and move on to creating rings and chains. We will then learn how to read patterns and start to tat a simple snowflake.

$60 1:00-4:45 p.m.

Patterned Kumihimo Braiding with Sue Swanson: Students will learn to string beads on Kumihimo cord to create patterns in their braids. Project set up should be completed during class time, but time will not allow completion in class. Instructions to finish project will be provided.

$37 1:00-4:45 p.m.

Knit one, Write too! With Polly Stapley: All levels – both in knitting and/or writing. This workshop will help us put on “paper” the joy of creating both with needles and pen. We will explore our knitting/writing lives through a series of open ended writing prompts with time for writing and reflection. The goal is to explore our creativity in a supportive environment (and, after all, what is more supportive than a roomful of knitters). If you have a garment (something you knitted or is special to you), bring that along. All styles of writers (fiction, memoirists, journal writers, poets, etc.) are welcome.

$25 3:00 - 4:45 p.m.

Learn to Knit. Volunteers are eager to help you become a knitter! Start knitting a cute hat today and finish it by the end of the weekend. Stop by the registration table during the day to schedule a time.
