February 16, 2020 / Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
On Wednesday, February 5, our parish council
met to discuss many issues. Co-chairs, Jeff and Kira have broken our mission into six pillars: Liturgy ~ to discuss the length of each mass and how
we intend to develop the 9:30am mass into a family mass and how to empower our CCD children to be leaders of prayer.
Religious Educa on ~ we discussed the need to meet on a regular basis with our catechists (teachers) and how to be. er support each other in classroom ac vi es. We discussed our preference to have a parent catechesis during the child catechesis me to be added in the 2020-2021 religious educa on offerings and to be er develop a parent/child mass structure building on this year’s mass with my class framework. Our commi ee is pleased with our 6:00 pm mass and with the involvement of our young people as leaders of prayer.
Building and Grounds ~ our chairs would like to meet with Building and Grounds to assess a three year plan.
Parish Fundraising ~ we discussed the need to have a fundraising event. We further discussed the need to have parish social events.
Ministries ~ our group discussed our preference to invite new families and exis ng families to join the many parish ministries.
Outreach/Evangeliza on ~ with the assistance of our youngest council member Connor, we would like to improve communica ons through group tex ng. We would like to invite parishioners to bring a friend back to church through a personal invita on
This past weekend was certainly a very memorable two days. On Friday evening, I was honored to give the blessing at The Night to Shine event at Centenary University in Hacke stown. This beau ful evening, as
men oned at mass last weekend, I would call a “love fest.” The organizers, our St. Luke volunteers, our Special Needs family, members of the board and faculty at the college, along with the Hacke stown police and under the guidance of the Tim Tebow Founda on, truly celebrated the love of Christ. O en mes, special needs adults feel lonely and displaced. Last Friday, they were the center of a en on at a beau ful evening. A big thank you to Mike Donowick and his leadership team for their hard work, joy and dedica on.
On Saturday evening, St. Luke was privileged to host the Special Needs 10th anniversary “Wines of the World” fundraiser in our parish center. I was delighted to welcome our beloved Pastor Emeritus, Fr. Mike, and many parishioners and friends to this elegant gourmet evening. Our young people served delicious canapes, our adults (wine) pourers gave generously. A great me was had by all! In the coming weeks, I am excited to report the net profit made by this wonderful ministry. A big thanks to Frank Sullivan, MaryJo and Pete Griese and their team. Thanks also to Rhonda Donovan and her decora ng commi ee and our hard working Mike and Tom for their efforts in se ng up and cleaning up, etc. We are blessed here at St. Luke by the many hearts and hands that give joy, love and purpose to our beloved Special Needs Ministry.
Enjoy this last full week of ordinary me. Ash Wednesday begins February 26. Our staff and I have worked on many varied Lenten prayer and scripture experiences. I’ll write about those next weekend.
