Is it time to replace anyone’s toothbrush? If so, narrow down the choices so your child can pick one. Reinforce good dental health habits. Encourage your child to brush at least twice a day and introduce the process of flossing if he is not already familiar with it. If possible, have your child help you prepare special cards or treats to share with friends and relatives for Valentine’s Day. Visit with your child about each special person as you are creating his or her valentine. Gather teddy bears from around the home. Compare the bears. How are they the same and how are they different? What are the teddy bears made of? How do they feel? Which is the largest? Are any of the teddy bears extra special to you or your child? Talk about teddy bears with your child. Use some of the directional or descriptive terms your child learned in this theme. For example, are some of the teddy bears big and some small? Call out directions such as “Hold a teddy bear up toward the ceiling” and “Hold the bear down toward the floor.” Set a sheet of paper on a table and ask your child to place some teddy bears above the paper and others below. Cooking TogetherWhen cooking with young children, allow them

to help in a safe way with mixing, pouring, rolling, mashing, shaking, etc. Use words to describe what you are doing and what you

plan to do next. Talk about what you see, smell, feel, hear, and taste.

Crunchy Banana Bites1 or 2 bananas 1/2 cup yogurt (approximately) 1/2 cup granola (approximately)

Put the yogurt in one shallow bowl and the granola in another one. Peel a banana or two. Your child can use a butter knife to help you cut the bananas into chunks. Dunk the bananas in yogurt and then roll in granola. You can use a spoon to practice fine motor skills, or use your hands for messy fun!
