This knowledge and skill of the Feintool polymechanics results in the showpiece of fi ne blanking technology: The tool design, which al-lows even complex parts to be manufactured in large series and ready for use in a single pass.

Feintool: From the garage to pole positionGarage stories are not limited to Silicone Valley. When toolmaker Fritz Bösch laid the cornerstone for his company in a garage with 3 em-ployees in 1959, he probably – in spite of all his audacity – never imag-ined that it would develop into a global player and technology leader with 80% of the global market share for fi ne blank presses in just half a century.

The heart: Fine blanking and forming The rather complex structure of the Feintool Group can be traced back to the core compe-tencies of fi ne blanking and forming from any perspective. The “fi ne” difference compared to other processes such as stamping, pressing and sintering is that the technology offered by Fein-tool produces high-precision work pieces in sheet thicknesses of 1–16 mm, ready for installation, in a single press stroke. The resulting elimination of post-processing operations is the key element in comparative cost calculations for such compo-nents.

The key to success The technology is backed up by 50 years of con-sistent research and development in the com-pany research centre in Lyss or in cooperation with universities of applied sciences and techni-cal colleges in Switzerland and around the world. Everything revolves around the three parameters of cutting force, vee-ring force and counterforce – and many variables depending on the area of application of the work piece. Simulation pro-grammes (virtual prototyping) are becoming more and more important, calculating the forces generated during forming and cutting and pro-viding the designer or engineer with information

Standard parts: Well in the running at the 10-year markIn over 130 years of Brütsch/Rüegger company history, we have another anniversary to celebrate: The standard parts competency centre is looking back on ten years since its founding. Mould construction and stamping technology: Quality fi rst!

Over the course of the last ten years, we have con-tinuously expanded our product range and made it even more attractive. New names were added to the list of proven suppliers, for example TALKOB®

, a manufacturer of safety couplings and hoses. We also offer skilled support by our standard parts specialists, all of whom are trained toolmakers or machine engineers. They form a competency cen-tre that is unique in Switzerland. Their technical knowledge covers all conceivable applications in mould construction and stamping technology as well as machine and apparatus construction. Special parts: No problem! We prepare special parts from CAD fi les or draw-ings, producing them in superior quality, on time and at attractive prices in conjunction with expe-rienced production partners.

As a result of optimising our standard parts prod-uct range, our products also became popular in other industries. For example, high-precision guide elements are also used in the semiconduc-tor industry, valve technology, and the chemical industry in addition to tool and mould construc-tion. Thanks to the cross-industry expertise of our team, we were able to utilise existing know-how and maintain high-quality consulting services.

Logic in the process chain The structure of the Feintool segments of fi ne blanking / forming, system parts, auto-mation and plastic / metal components really does make sense: High-precision multi-func-tion parts are produced in modern fi ne blank-ing presses with the core tool. These parts can be supplied individually, or combined into assemblies or end products using automatic assembly equipment also offered by Feintool.The production facilities for all of these steps are located around the world. Focal points include automobile industry centres in the USA, Japan, Europe and – sooner or later – in China, India or Mexico.

Feintool is along for the ride The main market for Feintool technology and services is the global automobile industry. But more and more customers from the electron-ics industry, telecommunication and even the medical industry are recognising the advantages of fi ne blanking technology for their products. So the future looks bright for the listed Feintool group, with more than 1900 employees around the world (of which 360 are in Lyss). A tour of the technology centre and parts production in Lyss says it all: As long as we have companies like this, there is no need to worry about economic activ-ity in Switzerland in the foreseeable future!

Top-performance milling: FUTURO HPC-PRO

Due to increasing cost pressure, manufactur-ers require high-performance cutting tools with optimum durability, high chipping volume and the least possible amount of machine downtime. We came up with the new line of FUTURO HPC-PRO cutters for our customers in order to meet these requirements.This product line includes top-performance rough-ing and fi nishing cutters. Cut full grooves up to1 x D with incredible productivity, and then fi nish them with the very same tool! This eliminates the need to change tools for fi nishing. High-quality car-bide combines the advantages of wear resistance and durability while covering a wide range of applications. Thanks to the unequal pitch of the blades, vibrations are reduced to a minimum. The

special core geometry also prevents cutter defl ec-tion. This is especially advantageous when cutting full grooves. BRW 264 580 from DIXI is the ideal thread cutter for extreme materials such as INCONEL. A current ex-ample from the aerospace industry: In INCONEL 718 with additional welding seams, M10 threads were successfully cut with the following cutting data:Vc = 15 m/min, fz = 0.04 mm, or Vf = 145 mm/min and n = 605 RPM. Pre-drilling Ø 8.5 mm; the opera-tion was cooled with emulsion (10%). BRW 264 580 is also available with TiAlN coating upon request!

Thread cutting in INCONEL

Improve cost effectiveness with UT!The standard radius cutter “HB” from Union Tool allows you to counteract increasing cost pressure in tool and mould construction (BRW 222 000), since it is extremely universal (from copper to steel HRC 65) and therefore reduces expensive inventory. And the price is also incredible: Ø2 is available from just CHF 44.40 in stock at Brütsch/Rüegger Tools. Only the best Japanese carbide is used, and the HARD MAX coating guarantees superior durability.

You will fi nd the PROTOTYP face cutterBRW 223 900 on page 630 of the new Toolbook 17. This tool is especially well suited for use on CNC lathes where clamping options are limited. Thanks to the reduced shaft, you can nevertheless clamp and productively process large cutting diameters. In many cases, this supports high cutting speeds in spite of the limited RPM. In addition, the TAX coating makes this tool universally applicable (steel, INOX).
