    "THE FINAL CHAPTER"

    FADE IN:

INT. WRITERS STUDY #1 - EARLY EVENING (IN MID WINTER)

    -DESCRIPTION OF THE SCENE

The story begins in the study of an apartment of a criticallyacclaimed writer. It is 1930's England, in the middle of London city.

Snow can be seen falling from outside a frosted window. In front of

the window is a desk, and on the desk are the many items you would

expect a writer to have, such as a typewriter, and desk lamp, a pot

with a pencil, and a pencil sharpener. To the right of the desk is a

pile of paper. It is his unfinished book. The desk lamp is on. A clock

ticks in the background. A letter from the bank tells that he is in

debt. A cigarette tray and bottle of a spirit also rest on the desk,

along with several pages of attempts at the final chapter.

On the walls around him are many bookcases. A calendar shows the date

as December 19th, 1930. The calender shows many crosses, leading up tothe 20th, circled and marked as deadline. There are several awards

and newspaper clippings of past success.

The rest of the room is rather crowded by boxes and other piles of

    books.

    -THE EVENTS IN ACT 1

The film begins by fading in, showing these awards / newspaper

clippings of some guy. The camera is positioned a bit further away,

but zoomed in. It is evident that this guy is Arthur Winters, a crimewriter, our main character.

A match is lit (sound effect) and the match comes up in front of the

camera which then comes into focus revealing the cigarette he is

lighting, this is in an extreme close up. The camera then follows his

hand as he waves the match out and places it into the ash tray. From

there, the camera drifts past the ash tray, revealing several papers

of his many attempts at writing the final chapter. On one of them he

has even scribbled 'HOW DO I END THIS' angrily with an ink pen, which

has obviously busted the nib! This can be seen laying next to the

    papers.

He then sweeps the papers aside and into the bin. The camera follows

those papers up until the camera can focus onto the right side of the

wall in front of him, showing the calendar. The camera, while zooming

slowly, crossfades even closer, revealing his deadline.

We hear sound effects of him setting up the typewriter (putting the

paper in. etc) and typing a title.

The camera now cuts on the last few letters being typed in the title.

He has typed, The Final Chapter. It goes quiet for a second.

Arthur then picks up the letter from the bank. It clearly says

something about his overdraft. The ticking of a clock becomesincreasingly noticeable. He glances over at the clock on the wall and

back at the letter. He puts the letter in one of the draws.

He slams the draw shut and then the camera slowly pulls up from the

draw to reveal a distressed face. //This is the first time we properly

see the writers face// The writer puts his hand over his mouth and

tries to calm down, but is still looking worried. By this time, it is

    late evening.

He sits, looking down and pouring a glass of a spirit from a bottle, and takes a sip. He then pauses as he sips. He pears into the glass.

He gets the idea that the victim was in fact poisoned with the glass

of wine at the diner party, and not the food! This is shown through a

thought bubble style animation around his head. A reoccurring effect

in this film. Sequences of still 2D Objects are shown rotating,

being pivoted from the middle of his head, around his head in a

    circle.

This ultimately fuels his mind with all new ideas and he gets straight

    back to the typewriter.

//Everything in blue are his thoughts//

    -THE EVENTS IN ACT 2

The camera is positioned just in front of the window, facing the

writer in his chair. As he types his story, the events play out in his

mind. During the first page of typing, around his head we can see

magnifying glasses rotating and moving around in a circle.

He swipes to a new line, and the thought bubble shows evidence of a

bottle of cyanide (maybe?). Some is put into the glass of wine. Then adead hand / arm collapses on the floor. (still circling around his

    head)

He swipes to a new line, and the killer is on the run. Suddenly many

police cars are chasing this other car around his head! The writer

goes to swipe a new line, but this time it jams! All the cars crash

and pile up and the thought bubble disappears.

He tries to force it a few times, but it is totally stuck. The writer

goes arrr! in exasperation, and takes the page out and moves the

typewriter back a bit, out of the way, (but in line with the glass)

and he then takes the pencil from the pot.

He see that it is a bit blunt so he slightly cautiously puts it into

the pencil sharpener and sharpens the pencil. He starts to hand write

the rest of the book. The thought bubble starts up again from where it

had left off, and the cars start chasing the other car again around

    his head.

The pencil lead breaks and the front police car stalls and the rest

pile up again. He puts the pencil into the sharpener again, then

continues writing, and the cars start moving once more.

The pencil lead breaks again, and for the third time, the cars stop,

and the pencil needs sharpening again. He shoves it into the pencil

sharpener (less cautiously) and it takes the pencil permanently. It

slowly eats away at it, while the writer tries to pull it out. It

stops, with only a small pencil left. Really small! (under an inch!)

So he opens a draw in hope to find a spare pencil. Instead he finds

many other small (under an inch) sized pencils! Feeling, well thats

just typical, he closes the draw and attempts to write with the smallpencil anyway. The camera slowly moves away from the desk and pans

over to look out of the window. Snap! Another lead breaks.

    -THE EVENTS IN ACT 3

Time passes, and it is now the morning. The sun is rising from outside

of the window. The camera pans back onto the desk, showing just how

many of those little pencils it has taken to get the chapter finished

as they are strewn (with broken leads) all over the desk.

He is just writing the last sentence, and a thought bubble around his

head shows the killer being hanged. (hangman style!)

He is happy! He has finished his book just in time. He puts the last

page onto the pile, then takes a sip of his drink and in a brief spurt

of happiness, he does a 360 degree spin in the chair, but accidentally

hits the side of the desk with his knees and this causes the whole

    desk to rattle.

The typewriter unjam's and knocks over the glass, spilling the drink

over the pages and the cigarette in the ashtray which ignites, settingthe pages of his book on fire. His thought bubble disintegrates too,

and we see his anguished expression before cutting to the credits!
