First-year students are also automatically considered for Penn State scholarships. Approximately 4,100 first-year students receive a University scholarship. Both Pennsylvania and non-Pennsylvania residents receive this consideration once they are accepted into Penn State. Typical scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $3,000 per academic year.

Scholarships At-a-Glance

• IST requires an application for certain scholarships, including the David Rusenko Entrepreneur-in-Residence Scholarship, David Rusenko Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship, and the Nick and Melinda Berardi Open-Source Scholarship.

• In addition, all full-time undergraduate students (including incoming freshmen) enrolled in IST are considered for scholarships for which they are eligible upon completion of the FAFSA.

• Students attending a non-UP Penn State campus are eligible for scholarships.

• Most scholarships are awarded by mid-summer. Occasionally, new scholarships may become available during the semester and awards are made when the funds are available. When an award is made, the funds are visible on your e-Lion account.

• Only students who have been selected for an award will receive direct notification via e-mail and a letter sent to the home address of the recipient.

• While you do not need to submit a copy of your FAFSA to IST, it is highly recommended that you file a FAFSA, no later than March 1. Your FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for awards that are based on financial need.
