HANGING OF THE GREENS WORSHIP SERVICEFrom FBC Rutland by Pastors Patti and Jon Stratton, Sunday 11/30/14

Almost 2,000 years ago, the story goes, a clutch of sleepy shepherds were watching over their sheep on a star-brightened hillside in Palestine. It was a still, uneventful night. Suddenly the darkness was filled with a strange light. The stillness was broken by angel voices singing “Glory to God in the Highest, on earth peace, goodwill to all.” So begins Christmas, the most beautiful and meaningful celebration of the Christian calendar.

Christmas actually begins with Advent, the season through which we are moving. Both the seasons of Advent―the season of “going toward” the birth of Christ―and Christmas have a long history. These seasons and their customs have developed through many centuries and many countries. Old customs and observances are refined, renewed, replaced; new ones are added. Some of our customs have pagan origins but have been redeemed or converted by redefining their meanings. What is significant for us is not what they may once have meant but rather what they mean for us today.

As we make ready for the birth of the Christ child by preparing this sanctuary, we make ready ourselves and the sanctuary of our own hearts. We are mindful that, although it is not yet Christmas, it will be here soon, very soon.

Join us Sunday night, November 27th, at 5:00 while we decorate the church for Christmas time. We will begin decorating the sanctuary, and foyer areas. Once these areas have been decorated, we will move down to the fellowship hall, around 5:45, for soup and finger food. Please bring a favorite soup, veggies, fruit, finger food, dessert, or Christmas cookie to share with others. There will be a Praise Band Jam after we eat. Everyone is invited to join us for this great evening as we prepare for the Christmas season.

Isaiah 9:6-7A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and authority will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be vast authority and endless peace for David’s throne and for his kingdom, establishing and sustaining it with justice and righteousness now and forever.

Dear Baptist Church FamilyThe words "thank you" are hardly enough to say for the wonderful dinner you and your crew cooked and served our family after Herb's funeral. We all appreciate the special care that you gave to us. I know that Kenny, Cheri, Garnet, and Bonnie have such special memories of the Baptist Church in Fulton, And, yes the "Baptist" green beans were delicious! It meant so much to the Greger family.

Many thanks from the Greger family

First Baptist Church,

On behalf of the Fulton High School, FCA, I want to thank you for allowing us to have a Fifth Quarter event at your youth annex. It’s a wonderful space and our kids had a safe and enjoyable time there. Thank you again for letting us use it.

Most Sincerely,Mona Steffens
