A Message from the CHAI Board President and CHAI CEO
In 2019, CHAI took many proactive steps to improve quality in the current year and plan for improvements many years into the future. CHAI implemented a new staff-training program providing a more intensive new employee training with built in follow-up trainings for reinforcement of processes, as well as hired a full time nurse, thanks to a long term grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.
CHAI worked with a consultant who is an expert in creating and analyzing surveys to revamp the annual satisfaction survey to solicit more feedback that is actionable. Lisa and I held one on one meetings with all in-town resident relatives to review findings from the Aging Task Force. At these meetings, we discussed ways CHAI is working to ensure continuity of support to allow residents to live safely and with dignity for as long as CHAI can provide the best level of care. Every year, the Health and Human Services Commission audits CHAI to ensure our HCS homes and Assisted Living home are properly run. CHAI received a 100% score for the audit this year. Our Wolens program continues to plan fun and engaging social programs for those we serve. The State Fair was probably the biggest hit!
We had a group of families, staff and board members travel to Austin to advocate on behalf of our residents. We spoke with our state legislators so they understand the need for more funds to support our programs. The Special Needs Partnership of Jewish Family Service honored CHAI and Temple Emanu-El for the outstanding support and programs in the special needs community. Most all of our residents participated in the Walk Against Hate sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League. We joined our entire community to celebrate diversity and combat Anti-Semitism.
CHAI achieved another consecutive year of successful fiscal performance. Our Annual Campaign as well as our special event, Living the CHAI LIFE, met their fundraising targets. This accomplishment, as well as sound budgetary management by our staff, enabled CHAI to cover its costs in 2019. CHAI continues to be dependent on the generosity of donors. CHAI’s costs continue to rise and in 2019, the State of Texas funding to support CHAI’s programs remained lower than the cost of providing quality services.
Volunteers and community involvement continue to bring meaning and increased quality of life to our residents. With your participation, the CHAI residents and non-resident clients continue their growth. Our residents and staff appreciate your dedication and continued support!
Thank you all for supporting CHAI,

Thank you all for supporting CHAI,
David Romick Lisa BrodskyBoard President Chief Executive Officer
