FLIGHTPLAN CREATION TIPS The following tips will assist the new FMS user in remembering how to enter the various flightplan components into the flightplan. The information following the flightplan creation tips will cover flightplan creation in detail. 1. Placing a departure airport on the flightplan/route is required for selection of a SID. This should be accomplished automatically by the FMS during Initialization. 2. A departure is created through the FPL MENU key by selecting DEPART. 3. Airways are selected through the LIST function. 4. To enter an airway, use the LIST function which requires a reference waypoint. On the flight plan, this is accomplished by placing a cursor on the flightplan with a line select key. The waypoint prior to or above the cursor position is the reference waypoint. 5. Placing a destination airport on the flightplan /route is required for selection of a STAR and/or approach. 6. A STAR and an approach are selected through the FPL MENU key by selecting ARRIVE. 7. The selection of a runway on the arrival page is used to direct a STAR to a specific runway. 8. A STAR need not be entered for an approach to be selected. Pressing the line select key next to APPR will bring up the available approaches for that airport. 8. When selecting an approach, recommend selecting a transition for the approach when available.
