Binghamton,NY–July27,2020–TheBinghamtonCommunityOrchestraispleasedtoannouncethatconductor,EvanMeccarello,willbejoiningtheorchestraasthenewMusicDirectorfortheBCObeginningwiththe2020-2021concertseason.Mr.MeccarellorecentlyappearedwiththeorchestraasGuestConductorinFebruaryofthiscurrentyear.Hehasbeenchosen,afterayearlongsearchprocess,tosucceedDr.TimothyPerry,whoservedtheorchestraformanyyearsandretiredafterthe2018-2019season.MaestroMeccarellojoinstheorchestrafromhishomebaseinRochester,NY.There,heservesasDirectoroftheHochsteinAlumniOrchestra,anensemblethathefoundedin2010attheHochsteinSchool.HehasheldthepositionofConductoroftheNazarethCollegeChamberOrchestra,andcurrentlyistheAssistantConductoroftheNazarethCollegeSymphonyOrchestra.Additionallyheconductsthe
IrondequoitCommunityOrchestra,andtravelsweeklytoNewLondon,CTtoserveasConductoroftheThamesValleyYouthSymphonyOrchestra.MaestroMeccarelloiscommittedtoengagingwithcommunitiesandexploringnewpossibilitiesinclassicalmusic.Thisisespeciallytrueintoday’stroubledworld.Inhisownwords,“Togethernesshasbecomesoextremelyimportant.Greatmusicalexperiencesgiveusachanceforsoulstotouchevenwhenwecannot.” Meccarellocreditshissuccesstolearningfromworld-renownedconductingteachersincludingLarryRachleff,BenjaminZander,DavidEffronandJormaPanula.HereceivedmusicaltrainingatNazarethCollege,whereheearnedaviolinperformancedegree,andfromBowlingGreenStateUniversity,wherehecompletedamastersdegreeinorchestralconducting.Aviolinist,inadditiontobeingaconductor,MeccarellowastwicewinneroftheconcertocompetitionwhileattendingNazarethCollege.Thesummerof2019sawMaestroMeccarellotraveltoperformwithprofessionalorchestrasinBulgaria.Thispastseasonfeatured,inadditiontohisappearanceherewiththeBCO,appearanceswithcivicanduniversityorchestras(intheMaestro’sownwords),“fromBuffalotoSaranacLaketoProvidence,RI.”MeccarellocanalsobefoundintheroleofguestconductorandclinicianatmiddleandhighschoolsintheRochesterarea,includingNewYorkStateSchoolMusicAssociation(NYSSMA)AreaAll-StateandAll-Countyfestivalorchestras.Infurthermusicalactivities,MeccarelloservesasVicePresidentoftheKeukaLakeMusicFestivalandistheradiohostforSoundspace,onWAYO-FMinRochester,ashow,toquotefromtheWAYO-FMwebsite,dedicatedtothe“Playingofmodernandcontemporaryclassicalmusic...featuringmanyunknowncomposerscirca1965andonward.”Andjustforevenmorefun,MeccarellomaybeheardperformingwithUptownTango,aduothatspecializesinArgentinetangomusic,withclassicalandjazzthrowninforgoodmeasure.TheBinghamtonCommunityOrchestralooksforwardwithgreatanticipationtoworkingwithMaestroMeccarellobeginningthiscomingseason,andforalongtimetocome.ForadditionalinformationaboutEvanMeccarello,pleasevisit:https://www2.naz.edu/dept/music/faculty-staff/evan-meccarello/https://hochstein.org/Ensembles/Orchestras/Hochstein-Alumni-Orchestra,and @uptown_tango on Instagram.ForadditionalinformationabouttheBinghamtonCommunityOrchestra,pleasevisittheorchestra’swebsiteat:http://binghamtoncommunityorchestra.org/andhttps://www.facebook.com/BinghamtonCommunityOrchestra/
