Miss Destiny Dawson
Miss Dawson, the granddaughter of Brother Richard Cotton, is a 6th grade student at Jolliff Middle School in Chesapeake, VA. Her school activities include track and soccer. Destiny’s goal is to attend college and to keep good grades.
On July 26, 2015, Destiny became a member of the New First Baptist Church family through her Christian experience. As part of our Youth
Ministry, Destiny participates with the Steelettes Youth Choir, Angels with Wings Praise Dance Ministry, and attends Sunday Church School.
Destiny’s favorite scripture is Psalms 95:2, “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms” and her favorite gospel song, “When It Rains It Pours”.
It’s a blessing to have Destiny as part of our church family as she continues to grow in her walk with the Lord. We pray the Lord continues to lead and guide her that she may encourage other youth.
“Congratulations to our Youth in the Spotlight, Miss Destiny Dawson, shining brightly for the Lord!”

Deaconess Evelyn L. Williams
Deaconess Williams (84 years of age) has been a faithful member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) for 60 years. Deaconess Williams was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. T. Melvin Steele in 1956. She married Deacon Louis Williams on August 15, 1955 and they are the parents of ten children (five are
deceased) and have 15 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
At a young age, Deaconess Williams worked for many dry cleaners in the area. She was also employed with General Electric (GE). She later applied for Civil Service and worked at the Ammunition Depot during the Vietnam Crisis. In 1993, she retired from the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, VA as a Foreman with 22 years of service. Deaconess Williams received several awards at General Electric and the Naval Supply Center.
She enjoys cooking for family gatherings and having fun with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always tells them about “the goodness of God and the love of Jesus Christ and He died for us that we might be saved”.
Being blessed with a gift for singing, Deaconess Williams has been a member of the music ministry for 60 years; singing with both the Gospel and Senior Choirs which are now known as the Concert Choir. She is an active member of the Deaconess Ministry (serving as Chaplain), Advisor for the Steelettes Youth Choir, and attends Sunday School, Adult Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School. Her favorite scripture, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Her favorite Christian song, “I’ve Got Jesus and That's Enough”.
What do Deaconess Williams love about New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville): “Make you feel you are the person that should be at this church. You can feel the love, kindness; even if you lose a love one, they are right there for you. This is my family.”
With her loving, giving, and uplifting spirit, Deaconess Williams continues to bless this church family though her singing of God’s goodness and mercy and we are thankful for her 60 years of service.
Congratulations to our Senior in the Spotlight, Deaconess Evelyn L. Williams, continue to sing to the glory of the Lord.
