LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello, everyone. Just a brief roundup on what’s going on with the Fort Worth Branch. We had a blast of a meeting in December! Ninety four people attended the gathering at Joe T. Garcia’s (to enjoy some fajitas) and we saw a wonderful presentation put on by John Fripp, who spoke on the Engineers Without Borders, Cabezas, Bolivia project. It was interesting to see great minds figuring out how to make things work in another country. 2008 has now begun, and things are kicking off well. At our January meeting, we listened to a great presentation from Henry Durrwachter on wind energy in Texas. We all learned how big those windmills really are and where they are actually going out West. Looks like a lot of great future opportunities for the energy industry in Texas. For the February 19th meeting, Woody Frossard of the Trinity River Vision Authority will be our presenter, giving us an update on the Trinity Uptown Project. The 2008 ASCE Regions 3, 6 & 7 Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders was held on January 25-26, 2008 at the Austin Marriott North in Round Rock, Texas. Scott Berman attended for the Branch. Travis Attanasio also attended the Regions 3, 6, & 7 Younger Members Leadership Conference in Round Rock during this same time. And speaking of Travis Attanasio, he was recently announced as the Fort Worth Branch Young Engineer of the Year . Travis has done an excellent job serving the Branch as our Hospitality Chair and currently as our Membership Chair. He also helped out tremendously at the Texas Section Meeting last fall in Fort Worth, being involved with a number of activities. On February 23rd, as part of E-Week, Travis will be receiving his Young Engineer of the Year award at the TSPE Banquet at the Petroleum Club in downtown Fort Worth. Please feel free to join us in honoring Travis’ achievement! Finally, here are some tidbits on what is coming to the Branch…we are investigating the possibility of upgrading our Branch web-site…we are working on cooperating with the Texas Section to mentor another Branch in Texas…and for our meetings, we are looking at some different meeting venues in March and April (like heading back to Joe T.’s!). Thanks to everyone who is continuing to ADVANCE THE BRANCH! Stephen B.
