During the tumultuous American civil rights era in the 1960s, Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream described a revolutionary world— a world of racial peace. A world where fire hoses and German Shepard’s weren’t used as ‘negro removal’ methods, a world that didn’t distinguish ‘coloreds’ from ‘whites,’ a world that guaranteed every citizen justice, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Now, almost 50 years later, we still can’t stop talking about this man and his dream.

So every January 15th of every year, we recognize and honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his mes-sage, and remember to be progressive, well-educated, world-changing individuals.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King always excelled at school and skipped both the ninth and twelfth grades, which allowed him to enter Moorehouse College at age 15. Once he received his Bachelors in sociology he enrolled in theological school, and soon became a Baptist minister and a civil rights activist. He then went on to receive his Doctorate in philosophy.

His civil rights work began in Birmingham, Alabama in the 1950s. He was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, founded the Southern Christian Leadership Council and helped organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott that made Rosa Parks so famous. He continued to inspire change and equality in the South, before storming the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with millions of supporters for the ‘March on Washington’ in 1963.

On these steps, he gave his historical “I Have a Dream” speech, which solidi-fi ed his place in American history. His speech was a platform for dissatisfaction and a call to action for black Americans. He said that day, “we cannot be satis-fi ed as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one…No, no, we are not satisfi ed, and we will not be satisfi ed until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

A year after that monumental speech, he became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation through non-violent means. He gladly donated the $54,123 in prize money back to the civil rights cause.

Despite his message of peace and equality, King was assassinated by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. His death was a national upset and sparked nationwide riots’ in over 60 cities across the nation. He is survived by his wife Coretta Scott King and their four children.

Even in death, his inspirational legacy lives on in the hearts of contemporary leaders, like Barack Obama, Oprah, Denzel Washington, and those dedicated to seeing total equality and change in our world. If nothing else, Martin Luther King Jr. has shown the world that you don’t need to wish upon a star for your dreams to come true, all you need is within yourself.

On My iPod: The State vs. Radric Davis has some good

ones like “Kush is my Cologne”, and “Sex in Crazy Places”, but its more of Gucci’s same hun-gry mumbo-jumbo nonsense. The Young Money album, “We are Young Money” is a breath of fresh air though. We’ve all been caught singing along to “Bedrock”, but there are some other hard-hitters on there like “Pass the Dutchie” and “Wife Beater.” If you’re looking for something soulful, B.O.B. has a hit with “I’ll be in the Sky.”

In My Cup: Bend me Over and Lick Me Shots. The name

says it all. This sweet and sour combo of Crown whiskey, Amaretto sour liqueur, sweet and sour mix and club soda packs a punch that will be sure to put you on your booty.

WTF: Wheelchairs in the club. I wouldn’t make this

Happy New Year!!! The beginning of 2010 marks the end of the NFL regular sea-son. Im welcoming the new year with open

arms because its playoff time. The Patriots, Bengals, Chargers, Vikings, and the Cardinals all clinched the playoffs. The Saints and the Colts clinched the Division and Homefield advantage. I am highly disap-pointed about the Patriots losing to the Ravens but when you can't stop the run you can't win games. a second string reciever stepped up and did his best, he looked like a little Wes Welker if you ask me. The Jets not only made it to the playoffs but during week 16 the Jets needed a win over the undefeated Colts and they also needed the Dolphins, the Jaguars and the Ravens to lose. Well Santa delivered a victory two days after Christmas because all the aforementioned teams lost and the Jets defeated the Colts 29-15. Then they defeated the Bengals two Sundays in a row and they have secured a definitive spot in the journey to the playoffs. The Eagles lost to the Dallas Cowboys again, let me find out Tony Romo is trying to not to choke again this season. He may earn some respect from me after all.

Christmas day wasn’t a good one for the Orlando Magic who lost to the Boston Celtics 86-77. It was how-

ever a good game for Rajon Rondo. Rondo just missed getting his third career triple-double, but did manage to gain his 14th double-double of the season. Rondo is BALLIN and if you don’t agree check out his stats. Rajon leads the league in steals, is second, behind Steve Nash, in assists, and in a recent game became only the 3rd Celtic to enter the

30-15 club. That’s right Rondo had 30 points and 15 assists. Who are the other two Celtics in this club? Bob Cousy and Larry Bird. So, if Rondo sits amongst legends then why is he 8th in the running for a cov-eted spot on the All-Star roster? No disrespect to other point guards in the running but seriously I would way

rather see Rondo with the second starting spot than Allen Iverson. I’m just saying.

Manny Pacquiao and his camp have had enough of Floyd Mayweather and his camp saying any-thing. Pacquiao announced that he is suing Floyd Mayweather Sr., Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr., and Golden Boy Promotions for defamation. Mayweather Sr. believes that Manny was only able to rise through weight divisions and win titles while maintaining his speed and power by using illegal substances. Pacquiao denies such accusations and thinks it’s a ploy of the Mayweather camp. I think Manny is calling Floyd scared. Unfortunatey they won't be fighting. This would have been the biggest money fight in boxing history. I really wanted to see this fight because Pacquiao is the only one who can truly go toe-to-toe with Mayweather.

Crittenton who allegedly pulled guns on each other in the Wizards locker room. The alleged incident is supposedly over a gambling debt that Glibert owes Crittenton. Arenas denies the incident ever took place. I don’t know how much money was owed what I do know is that this incident could affect both these players’ season; which in turn affects their money. So, I hope that the dollar amount on that debt was worth more than your career. I understand it was probably in the heat of the moment but in the locker room? Get it together and make better decisions. Now Arenas is suspended indefinitley. The commissioner may try to make an example of him and never let him play another NBA game again.
