FROM THE PASTOR ’S DESK …

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today we are celebrating Trinity Sunday. As we celebrate this Year of Faith, it is important to reflect upon the mysteries of our Faith. When we recite the Nicene Creed every Sunday we an-nounce our belief in the Most Blessed Trinity, a most basic belief for Christians. Today’s Mass presents scriptural evidence for our belief. We also recognize those who have given the ultimate sac-rifice for our country and honor all those who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces. God bless you.

Last week our eighth graders had two wonderful things happen: They won the City Championship in Baseball and received the Sacrament of Confirmation! Not a bad weekend! Bishop Gries was very impressed with the children. After mentioning the joy of the children from the win, he went on to say that they carried that joy into the reception of the Sacrament.

The bishop stated: “Any liturgy in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a beautiful experience. The music, servers and the congregation all contributed to the atmosphere. I loved the young people and the way they carried themselves. They renewed their baptismal promises with enthusiasm and approached the anoint-ing with smiles.” Dear young people, I echo the sentiments of Bishop Gries. I am very proud of you.

Please make note of a these temporary scheduling changes that will occur in coming weeks:

Memorial Day Mass, May 27th at 8:30 a.m. Please come to Mass and then watch the parade from our front yard. Coffee and Donuts will be available.

First Saturday Devotions, June 1 at 9 a.m. Instead of the regular 8 a.m. Mass in the Extraordinary Form, following the Devotions at 9 a.m., you are invited to attend the Baccalaureate Mass of the Lyceum in the Extraordinary Form at 10 a.m. You are also invited to the reception following. If you have not yet had the opportunity to hear the young people of the Lyceum sing the beautiful chants and polyphony, please know that you will be in for a wonderful, spiritual experience.

Our Annual Corpus Christi Procession will follow the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 2. Please come and be part of this beautiful procession adoring our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The Annual celebration of our Patronal Feast of the Most Sa-cred Heart of Jesus will be on the Weekend of June 8 and 9, with the 5 p.m. Sunday evening Mass being offered in the Extraordinary Form (the tradi-tional Latin Mass).

As you can see, we have a very full schedule! Please come and be part of the Spiritual Life of our Parish. May God’s blessings be yours this Trinity Sunday.

Father Ireland

Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. (1 Cor 4:1-2)

May we be good stewards of God’s gifts. Please support your Church. We need your generosity.

Confirmation went very well. Bishop Roger Gries, O.S.B., gave our Eighth Graders a nice talk on faith and staying close to God in their high school years ~ and beyond. He mentioned using a G.P.S. (not a Garmin, but the God Positioning System) to help them get to their destination of Heaven. The young gentlemen and ladies were attentive, reverent and well-dressed. They made us proud.

Speaking of Grade 8, they will have a busy day this Friday, May 31. They will attend their last 8:45 a.m. Mass with the rest of the school, watch a nostalgic video and have a “good-bye” brunch … all before11:30 a.m. The video is a highlight that the eighth graders and their parents look forward to watching. It contains pictures of them in their younger years.

Congratulations Grade 8

THE FEST on the grounds of the Center for Pastoral Leader-

ship (home for Borromeo Seminary and Saint Mary Seminary) in Wickliffe on Sunday, August 4.

This is the 13th Annual Catholic Family FESTival, and it promises to be the best yet. The main stage will feature national Christian artists: Casting Crowns, Jamie Grace, For King and Country, and Matt Maher. There will be plenty of activities for the kids along with displays, a mom’s relaxation station, and more. The high-light, of course, is the closing Mass which starts at 8 p.m. and is followed by a great fireworks display.

More information will be coming in the weeks ahead. A schedule of events can be viewed online at www.theFEST.us.

FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS

You will notice that your envelope contains a letter from the pastor and 4 books of tickets. We NEED every family in the parish to try to sell or purchase as many of these tickets as possible. THIS IS OUR ONLY MAJOR FUNDRAISER FOR THE PARISH! Of EQUAL or GREATER IMPORTANCE is our need for volun-teers to “man” the Festival booths and activities. The Festival is a huge undertaking that requires many dedicated parishioners, fam-ilies or individuals, young and old, to help do the work, sell the tickets, cook the food, wash the pots and pans, work the Bingo games, etc., etc. There are 28 hours to be covered, and there are approximately 1,500 slots that need to be filled. Each booth is assigned a “crew” of workers by the Festival Chairperson Eileen Gerome. Any requests for a particular booth or day or shift should be directed to Eileen at the Parish Office, either on the form provided on the bottom of Father Ireland’s letter, or by phone at 216.382.7601.
