Bicycle Education The Year Four class has now completed its four week Bicycle Education Program. It was a fantastic program and thanks to Mrs McAuliffe for applying for the funds to be able to participate in such a great activity. Keep up the riding at home with your child, as practice makes perfect! The picture below shows how popular the school bike rack was on a Friday during Bike Education. Hopefully learning these skills will enable the students to ride to school more often, which will benefit not only the environment, but also their health and fitness.

Helpers from TAFE Last week we had a crew of gardening helpers from North Metropolitan TAFE, Leederville Campus. It was great to have their help, as a group of people can get through a lot of gardening and ‘brightening up’ tasks very quickly. All their hard work has helped to make our school environment even nicer. Amongst the jobs tackled, there was lots of painting, laying some slabs, and digging trenches in preparation for reticulating the garden along Albert Street at the front of the school. We love having groups such as this come out to lend a hand at Osborne P.S.

KINDY CLASS REPORT

The end of the term sees us finishing with a Black and White Boat construction and Boat race.

We were able to use the skills we have been learning over the term such as using sticky tape, threading

pipe cleaners and making decisions on how best to make our boat stay afloat. We decorated the

boats with black and white sticky dots ~ using our fine motor skills to peel off the stickers. We

then launched our boats in the Kindy water trolley and used wind power to race our friend’s boat. The last day of term allowed for some fun Easter celebrations with the making of bunny

masks and the collage of a huge egg picture. In the afternoon we went on a walk around the

school looking for evidence of the Easter Bunny! We didn’t find him but luckily he left us a little

basket of treats to share with everyone! Wishing you all a happy and safe holidays!

PRE-PRIMARY REPORT

There was a lot of celebrating in Pre-Primary this week. We all enjoyed Harmony Day, lots of

fun was had during activities and we all looked amazing in our traditional costumes. In History we have been learning that, all around the world; at different times of the year, there are people celebrating different

things, including Easter. We had a visitor during the week and they left behind an Easter gift for all the

children. We celebrated Autism Acceptance Month by wearing the colour blue on Tuesday (see above for a

special report.) We had discussions about embracing our differences and how we all have areas of strength

and areas where we are not so strong. As a part of Science this term we have been exploring different types of scientists to inspire the children's inquiry skills. The children have learnt about Paleontologists. They got

to dig for fossils, engage in dinosaur mini worlds and make their very own fossils. We had a roaring time!

Lastly, we would like to thank Miss C (Julia) for assisting the children and helping run activities in class for

the last two weeks, we wish you the best of luck on your next practicum placements. We wish everyone a

safe and happy holiday!

Osborne PS proudly wore their blue clothing on Tuesday in support of Autism Acceptance and Awareness. Autism Awareness Week is a time to come together to share an understanding of what autism is and how people with autism see the world around them. It is a time for us to celebrate everyone’s talents and special skills, as well as similarities and differences. Thank you to all staff and students that participated.

YEAR 1 CLASS REPORT

Harmony Day was a wonderful experience for the children who enjoyed participating in activities from around

the world. Easter is upon us and the children have made Easter baskets and written a procedure on how to

make them. The students have now completed their Literature Studies on the stories of Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu by Sheena Knowles and Rob Clement.

Wishing all class members a happy Easter Holiday and school holidays.

YEAR 2 CLASS REPORT

We have had wonderful term in Year 2. The children all settled in really well and are very familiar with the class

routines. The highlights of this term included swimming lessons, making fairy bread, cutting up different foods

into fractions and learning poetry with Miss Pittard. We also had a fantastic time last Thursday at Harmony Day

and it was so lovely to see everyone dressing up in their traditional clothes. This week we continued looking at time and identifying a quarter past and a quarter to the hour on an analogue

clock. We also stated identifying common and proper nouns and adjectives in sentences which we found very

interesting. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday and look forward to seeing you all again next term.

YEAR 3 CLASS REPORT

Fee Fi Fo Fum, we have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk! We have drawn what we think the

giant looks like, read a funny version and looked at Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives in the book. We have also

started designing an egg container for Jack and the Giant’s ‘golden egg delivery service’. This container must help our golden egg survive a drop of two different heights. This will be made in Week 1 of Term 2 so you have

plenty of time to find some materials for your children to bring in. All making and testing will be done at school.

A design of your child’s egg container will be sent home along with their suggested materials. We can’t wait to

find out which designs help the eggs survive their fall!

In Maths we are conducting surveys and finding a lot of interesting things about our classmates. We have been looking at reading Tables, Tallies and Graphs.

Many thanks to Jodie Scott, Shalini Singh, Nayna Patel,

Joanne Samardali, Sarah Kalebic, Tahlea Young, Geita Baire, Vaishali Ramola, Grace Y and Adam Littlewood who gave up

their time to help out with henna designs during Harmony Day. We really appreciate your time and support. Most of the school got one of your lovely designs!

YEAR 4 CLASS REPORT

The students have had a very full term and will be glad of a well-earned rest. On Monday, we had a guest

speaker from the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia give a very informative talk about Rules and Laws

as part of our HASS studies. We finished the 2nd Gear Introduction session from Let’s Ride on Friday, bringing

the four weeks of intensive instruction on bikes and bicycle safety to a close. The children finished the session with a triathlon race which involved the three sports, swimming, running and riding, to showcase their

skills. We say good bye and good luck to Karan S who is moving interstate. We will miss you at Osborne PS and

wish you all the best in your new school.

YEAR 5/6 CLASS REPORT

What a busy term!! Earlier this week, Jacquie, from The Constitutional Centre, took our class for an incursion

on Democracy. We participated in a few group activities and finished with a quiz. Jacquie was very impressed

with how much we already knew about the origins of democracy and the values that underpin democracy in Australia.

We have completed our ANZAC poems. They are quite moving – Mrs. Cashion even had a tear in her eye when

reading them.

Our poems are on display in our classroom. You are welcome to come and have a look.

We have started presenting our four minute speeches. The speeches we have heard so far have set a very high

standard. The rest of the class will be presenting early Term 2. Parents please take the time to listen to your child’s speech over the holidays. The more they practice the better their speeches will be.

MATHS QUIZ RESULTS
