CREATING ALL-ISLAND OPPORTUNITIES TO DO BUSINESSPLATO EBR are offering a unique networking event driven primarily to satisfy the needs of SME’s and particularly PLATO participant companies – PLATO EBR – PLATO Dublin – PLATO Cork – PLATO Ireland. The purpose of this event is to CONNECT Plato Participant companies in the East Border Region and Southern Region on the island of Ireland under the wider PLATO Ireland umbrella so as to promote growth and innovation among the delegates participating at the event.

09.50 – 10.20: Brian O’Hare, Director, Bombardier Aerospace
Improvement Through Engagement
Brian O’Hare is currently leading the Continuous Improvement Team in Bombardier
Aerospace’s European manufacturing site in Belfast. He has spent 14 of the last 20
years in various Finance roles within Bombardier, both in the UK and North America.
His last 3 years have been spent in the Transformation team, with responsibility for
rolling out the Achieving Excellence System, an adaptation of the Toyota Production
System.
10.20 – 10.50: Darren Mawhinney, Strategic Business Development Director, Glen Dimplex
The Path to Growth
After a successful international career in export marketing, strategy and change
consulting Darren joined Glen Dimplex as Strategic Business Development Director.
In his current role Darren assesses and trials new business ideas and technologies
while maintaining key strategic partner relationships. Darren is a frequent speaker
at industry events and guest lecturer at both the University of Ulster and Queen’s
University Belfast.
10.50 – 11.20: Gary Conroy, Chief Operating Officer, Realex
No Frontiers
Gary ensures that the company continues to deliver superior service, managing both
the Customer and Platform Operations functions. Gary comes from an International
Financial Services background, having worked in the industry for 15 years. Gary has
managed Commodity Operations with London-based investment banking giants
Goldman Sachs International, and has delivered Banking Software Implementation
projects around the globe for MISYS / Kindle Banking Systems. Gary is a graduate of
Trinity College Dublin.

Eamonn Fitzpatrick, FM Environmental
In 1977 Eamonn founded Fitzpatrick Systems Ltd. a waste water treatment company
which in 1988 became FM Environmental Ltd following a 50/50 merger with PWS
Ireland Ltd. In 1991 the business reverted to full ownership by the Fitzpatrick family
and the company progressed to become one of the leading players for the provision of
mechanical and electrical equipment for waste water treatment in Ireland diversifying
into Malaysia, the Middle East and Southern Europe as well as South East Asia.

13.50 – 14.20: Feargal McCormack, Managing Partner, FM Environmental
Cashflow & Tax Implications Of Cross Border Trade
Feargal McCormack FCA is the Founder and Managing Partner of FPM Chartered
Accountants. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Ulster Business
School, Chairman of Chartered Accountants Ireland and has many other significant
roles. In June 2012, he received the prestigious All-Ireland Award from the Institute of
Management Consultants in recognition of his significant contribution to business and
public life in Ireland.
14.30 – 15.00: Brian Morgan, Partner, Morgan McManus Solicitors
Employment Law North & South – A Comparative Analysis
Brian Morgan practices particularly in the area of Litigation and Employment Law
in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and has many years of experience in
Litigation involving Health & Safety Law. He is co-author of a number of publications
and has a great insight into growing Cross-Border business.
15.10 – 15.40: Jim Roycroft, Assoc. Director Pfizer Biotech
Culture Change in your Company for Success
Jim is currently the Biotech Community Leader for Pfizer Global Supply. He has
held leadership positions within Pfizer in Manufacturing Support, Technical Services
and Development, leading Technology Transfer and ongoing support of selected
commercial and development proteins, vaccines and pharmaceutical products.

Marion Walsh, Regional Manager, Plato Dublin
Plato Dublin commenced in Dublin in 1993 and over 2000 companies have now taken
part in the 12 month programme. The programme is run by Marion Walshe who has
been involved in Plato for the last 15 years. She is very experienced in the issues
affecting small businesses and enabling small businesses to thrive.

The presentation highlights what it takes to create a high performance digital
marketing strategy and win more customers online and how to create a step change
in business fortunes. Niall McKeown is the author of the digital strategy book entitled
“Want to be Liked or Want to be Rich?”.
14.30 – 15.00: William Despard, Owner, The Bretzel Bakery
My Road to Success
The Bretzel Bakery is one of the few remaining local city bakeries in Dublin. In business
since the 19th century, it supplies artisan bread to more than a hundred customers
in the Greater Dublin area. William Despard acquired the bakery in 2000 and has
presided over the increased awareness of the brand and its current success.
15.10 – 15.40: Pat Lynch, CEO, Compliance & Risks, Cork
How to Get Great Customers and Keep Them
Pat Lynch is a Cork based Entrepreneur and business owner. Pat founded award
winning Microtech Cleanroom Services in 1998 which he sold to National Linen in 2001.
He previously worked as Finance Director and Controller for the Irish operations of
US multinationals Seagate Technology, Western Digital and Summit Technology. He is
currently Director of Compliance & Risks, Inhance Technologies and Omnivend. Pat was
the initial investor in Compliance & Risks. He also holds the role of Founder and CEO of
Stock Market Training Ltd.

JJ O’Connell, Director, Plato Cork
J.J. O’Connell joined Plato as Director of Plato Cork in 1995 having previously worked for
Smurfit Ireland from the early ‘80s. He is a Graduate of the National University of Ireland
and holds a Masters Degree in Business Studies and is a graduate of Harvard Business
School International Competitiveness Programme. As a consultant he works with both
private and public sector organisations and many family-owned businesses.

José is an acknowledged Innovation Expert (as witnessed by his time with INSEAD), and
an experienced provider of innovation training to start-up and existing businesses. In his
role of Chief Executive of Mindshare he is also co-author of the original IIME (Introducing
Innovation in Micro Enterprises) innovation materials.
MindShare Consulting was founded by José Pietri in 1994. At the time Mr. Pietri was
transitioning from a 18-year career at IBM (USA) that had been entirely focused on mid-
range systems and SMEs. The original focus of MindShare was advanced facilitation and
meeting services using innovative tools. In Europe this quickly expanded to focused
consulting, especially related to education and training concerned with change and
innovation management and leadership.

Dr. Cecilia Hegarty, is the Director of PLATO EBR where her role in overseeing the various
component parts of PLATO programme activity and staff will be instrumental in sustaining
the PLATO model within the East Border Region.
