Dear parents
Are you leaving GPS in 2018? It would appear that a number of students may not be returning to our school in 2018, but parents have not yet done us the courtesy of letting us know. Could you please return the slip included in this week’s newsletter, give us a call or send an email to let us know if your child will not be returning and the name of the school they will be attending in 2018. Please note: it is NOT necessary for parents of students currently in Year 6 to do so.
Concert DVDs are now SOLD OUT!!! If you still wish to purchase a DVD of the concert, please get your note and payment in by TOMORROW, Friday December 8 and we will try to order additional copies.
Presentation Day – Please remember if you have a child receiving an award or undertaking a speaking part at one of our Presentation Day assemblies next Monday and you wish to collect your two passes to the assembly to do so tomorrow (Friday December 8) or Monday December 11. Passes MUST be collected from the office. The assembly times are as follows:
K-1 – commencing at 9.15am
2-4 – commencing at 10.00am

Term 4 Week 9 Thursday , 7 December 2017
135 Armitage Drive, Glendenning. NSW. 2761 Ph: 9832 8555 Fax: 98329724 E: [email protected]
Bugs – We had a visit from some scientists working in the primary industries area earlier this week. They are interested in trying to find out if an insect known as the brown marmorated stink bug is ‘invading’ western Sydney. Information about the bug can be found at: https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/about-us/media-centre/releases/2017/exotic-pest-alert-brown-marmorated-stink-bug
You will most likely find it around compost heaps and similar areas of fruiting plants. An adult and young are shown at right. Please report any sightings!
Staff Changes
For a few years now, we have had very few staff changes. This year is one of those where we have a few changes. We will be bidding farewell to the following staff this Christmas.
Mrs DaSilva –has been here a number of years and has been a classroom teacher mostly on K-2 classes. During the last few years has assisted students with learning support and proficiency in English - to Girraween PS.
Mrs Garcia – initially joining us from Claymore school, she has been a classroom and learning support and English language proficiency teacher as well. Mrs Garcia has had a very long drive to work each day and I thank her for her devotion to the students at GPS - to Brighton Le Sands PS.
Mrs Bansal –our specialist English as a Second Language teacher has been assisting with programs to help our newly-arrived students and those needing assistance with English –now off to Matthew Pearce PS as a newly-appointed Kindergarten teacher.
Mrs Madden – originally a casual at GPS, Mrs Madden was one of our main K-2 teachers. Mrs Madden has been on leave for some time and will be returning to the service next year - to Kellyville PS.
Miss Pillen – a temporary teacher with us, Miss Pillen has been teaching some of our primary children and has been one of the major coordinators in events such as swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals and over the last two years coordinated the Little Fishes swimming scheme and assisted with our school sports program - to Westmead PS.
Miss Hewitson –only here with us a short time providing learning and support and RFF teaching - to St Michaels, Blacktown.
I want to thank all of the above teachers. They all have a wealth of expertise and experiences and have made superb attempts to assist the students and our school community. All of them will be greatly missed – their leaving is bittersweet in that whilst we’ll miss them, we have had the benefit of their involvement in our school – I wish them all the very best in their new schools and to their families.
School Administrative Officer loss- Ms Kristie Campbell began working with us some years back. She came from a corporate background but most importantly brought a desire not just to be an efficient administrator but to serve – the students, the parents and the staff of our school. Kristie has always been a die-hard worker who moves at maximum speed at all times and no matter how dysfunctional a computer may be she always triumphs to do an exemplary job. She is moving with her family to Newcastle – she will be greatly missed.
We will also be saying ‘hello’ to some new teachers – Mrs Jessica Smith, joining us from Katoomba North PS, and Mrs Amelia Wilson, from Hebersham PS, with possibly more to come. We also congratulate three of our long-term temporary teachers who have now become permanent teachers at our school – Miss Natarsha Williams, Mrs Nicole Lindsay and Miss Kirsten Milledge.
Playgroup has now finished for this year. To register your interest in playgroup for 2018, please phone the school on 9832 8555, drop in to the office or complete and return the slip included in this newsletter.
Yours faithfully,
Doug Meaney
Principal
