Tanya Oswald

I have been an avid contributor to the ForestLake State High School community sincemy eldest son started his secondaryeducation in 2013. I have alwaysunderstood the significance of the P&CAssociation in schools, being activelyinvolved with the P&C at Forest Lake StateSchool as Treasurer, however, I havechanged my perception of the P&C asbeing a keystone in supporting school clubsand organisations.

It is from my observation of the students who are willing todonate their time and energy to making a difference in thecommunity, that I wish to offer my own support in providing thestudents of Forest Lake State High School with the means tobest develop their skills to continue contributing to our society.

Jason Abayekoon

Over the last 3 years as a P&C executivemember and current P&C President andSchool Council member at Forest LakeState School, I have a sound understandingof how an IPS School Council operates. Mygoal is to build a strong foundation for theschool to succeed.

I’m a father to 3 amazing kids, I amfortunate to have the support of my wifeand kids who encourage me to succeed.

I work in Telecommunications and Unified Communicationsfor a Qld Government Department. Working in the IT andTelecommunications industry has allowed me to bring skills andknowledge to my own P&C and School Council.

Remembrance DayOur 2020 School Captains, Charlotte, Bree, Sean and Haydenjoined the Forest Lake community to recognise the 100 yearssince the end of World War I.

Media FXYear 10 Media Arts students enthusiastically wounded eachother this week as they participated in a special effects makeupworkshop. They were shown how to use modelling wax andliquid latex to create cuts, bullet holes and zombie bites.

The workshop comes at the end of their ‘S for Suspense’ unitin which they have been studying how suspense is created infilm. Through the unit they have designed their own suspensefulsequences, produced suspenseful soundscapes forprofessionally produced scenes and analysed the originalGhostbusters film and the reboot.

Learning the Traditional waysOur Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are reallyenjoying their lunchtime activities, led by Julie, our CommunityEducation Counsellor.

Duke of Edinburgh – Bridge AwardsThe Year 7 BRIDGE Cooking Crew had their last session withMrs Parkinson this week.

They had the opportunity to let their creativity flow as theymade gingerbread Christmas trees. Using 5 different sized Starshaped Gingerbread biscuits, Royal icing and a variety of lollies, the group created some amazing (and very interesting!) items. There may have been the occasional ‘break out into song’ whilethey worked….

We took the opportunity to pose for some end of yearcelebration photos with the wrapped creations.

We’ve had a lot of fun this year learning various cooking skillsand working together. Thanks to all of the Cooking Crew fortheir willingness to listen, try new things and learn by doing.

Amateur ArchaeologistsTwo of our Year 7 classes became amateur archaeologists forthe day at the Abbey Museum - digging up ancient Egyptiantreasures and artefacts and learning about the sacred processof mummification. What a learning experience!

2020 Student Resource Scheme

Recently you would have received an invoice for 2020resources fees.

The Student Resource Scheme Agreement form will beforwarded at a later date for completion by you and return to theschool office. Previously this form was issued and completedevery year. Under the new Departmental SRS Agreement, you are able topay the fees in full or by three payments across the first threeterms.

If you are paying in full, payment is required by 7 February 2020.If you are making the three separate term payments they aredue in the first two weeks of terms 1, 2 and 3. Hence all feesare to be paid by the second week of July 2020.

At the end of each term a statement will be issued showingwhat is left to pay and this automatically states how many daysthis is outstanding. OneSchool – the department’s accountingprogram - has this as a compulsory component of invoicing asany fees due after the due date in February are recorded asoutstanding irrespective of any payment arrangements made.

SRS as well as other invoices can be paid by BPOINT, directlyinto the school bank account or at the payment window atschool.

The school also offers the options of Centrepay or BPOINTcontracts. If you wish to take up any of these options contactthe school accounts receivable officer to organise forms to becompleted.
