Dear Mammoth Parents,

Welcome Back to C2E! On behalf of Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Whatley and the entire staff, I am extending a sincerely warm welcome back to every C2E family as we begin year 14 of being a DCSD charter school family.

While most of our kiddos had a nice summer playing and romping in the pool, our teachers were hard at work honing and sharpening their technology expertise. Many of our staff spent countless hours in “school” this summer to further our tech initiatives. In fact, our staff list of presenters to leading technology conferences around the country continues to grow, with Mr. Cleaver and Mr. Thompson added to Mrs. Mossholder, Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Horne, C2E’s name is out there on the forefront of the technology in – education community. C2E admin spent a week working with the Department of Education’s Future Ready community and was proud to represent C2E as the ONLY DCSD school making the DOE’s pledge for our students. We are also highlighted in a recent Google Case study which I am providing for you here should you be interested.

C2E is, again, participating in the School Marshal program which means you will notice the presence of an armed police officer on premises. We do share the officer with a few other schools but he will be here periodically throughout the day. In addition to the School Marshall, we will have patrols during drop off and pick up throughout the year. Please make sure you refresh your memory on proper carpool etiquette and follow the guidelines we have given you. As a reminder, we ask that you not park on the North side of Carlson Drive or in the apartment complex parking lots. Please also refrain from making left turns when driving into the school parking lot or exiting our drive while in carpool line. We are focused on 21st Century learning spaces for our school this year. In order to help us meet our goals, PVA is hard at work on the fall fundraiser, the annual Mammoth March, which will be hitting C2E in November! The PVA have many fun and exciting activities for our school family scheduled this year. I encourage everyone to do your part and get involved!

Once again, the State of Colorado has mandated we complete a plethora of standardized testing the first 30 days of school. We actually get to see and use this data to inform individualized instruction. Finally, I am humming Katy Perry’s “Roar” as I review C2E’s Colorado Measures of Academic Success results from the Spring of 2015. Our students scored the 2nd highest in the entire district on 5th and 8th grade

Hello, I am excited to be back at C2E this year. I hope everyone had a great summer. I have a lot of great ideas for this year’s art classes. In addition, I am planning some cross curricular activities for students. Several grades will be doing a paper mâché project at some point during the year. Please check future newsletters for supplies that students will need to bring in from home. It will mostly be items such as recyclables and newspapers. Newspaper can be brought in at any point during the year. Parent volunteers are needed to help with yearbook. Please let me know if you are interested in helping design the yearbook. You will need to commit to a couple meetings and trainings in addition to several hours of your personal time

working on an online program. All meeting, trainings, and hours that you work on the yearbook count towards your volunteer hours. You will be asked to design 4-8 pages depending on your availability. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions.

My husband and I would like to introduce you to David Sonore Barrera, born on Wednesday, July 15 at 3:59 pm at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital! He weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 20.25 inches long.

Our son has musical names-he was named for David, the psalmist. His middle name, Sonore, is a musical term which means "soaring resonant sound with rich tone." We are all doing just fine! His daddy was a real trooper and excellent birth coach! I will return to C2E on August 31! Please check music.c2e.org this fall for updates regarding music activities!

Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to another successful year with the Challenge to Excellence (C2E) Parent Volunteer Association (PVA).

It’s going to be a great year with many fun events for every family to enjoy! We are kicking off the school year with a Spirit Night at Firehouse Subs in Parker on Thursday, August 13th, and our first Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be happening on Thursday, August 27th. We also have scheduled the Fall Festival, Mammoth March Fun/Color Run, Book Fair, Staff Luncheons/Appreciation Week, Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, Mother-Son ‘Minute to Win It’, Father‑Daughter Dance, Kindergarten Buddy Day, Spirit Nights, and Spirit Wear Days!

Last year we exceeded our fundraising goal, raising just over $50,000!! As a result of this we were able to replace the turf on the sports field over the summer. It’s ready to go and the kids will be able to enjoy it this year and for years to come! Our PVA annual fundraising goal for the 2015-16 year is $50,000 and our goals will continue to support our strong technology program, but we will also start to focus on raising funds for improvements to the library.

Every parent is crucial to the success of these events and fundraisers for C2E! Please consider chairing or co-chairing one of our events/fundraisers. We have a great start on filling these positions but we still need chairs for the Fall Festival, Book Fair, Father-Daughter Dance, Spirit Nights, and the Spring Fundraiser. You can sign up as a chair for these events here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b49adab23a64-pvachair

It is also very important to support our events by volunteering to help wherever you can. If we do not have sufficient chairs, donations, volunteers, or RSVPs for an event, then we will cancel the event and try again next year, or adjust the calendar. We want your feedback so please feel free to reach out to the PVA Board by sending an email to [email protected].

We still need to fill the Vice President position for the PVA. This is a great opportunity to get involved and support C2E. Please visit our website (https://sites.google.com/site/c2epva/) for more details and submit your application today!

We hope you will consider supporting our ongoing fundraisers like SCRIP King Soopers and Box Tops/Labels for Education. These are two of our easiest fundraisers as you simply purchase groceries using your reloadable SCRIP King Soopers card, and 5% proceeds come back to C2E at NO cost to you. We also earn money for each Box Tops/Labels for Education coupon you cut from those groceries.

Our first PVA meeting is Tuesday, August 18th, first thing after morning drop off at 8:00 a.m. Please join us from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. in the library. We know that it is difficult to take time out of your schedule and will try to offer meetings at the best times for everyone in hopes it will be more family-friendly and free up your evenings. We will host four PVA meetings this school year and encourage you to attend to give us your feedback and participate in the planning process. We hope to see you there!

Thank you to those of you that ordered EduKit school supplies online. C2E teamed up with EduKit again this year to provide a quick, easy, convenient, and stress-free option for your school supply shopping. We trust you’ll agree that having your school supplies waiting for you in the classroom was a nice luxury! Not only did it save you time but by using this service, you were also helping C2E, as a small amount of the purchase price helps to supplement the Technology Department with supplies that are needed throughout the year.
