Like generations before us, we are entrusted with the care of the earth so that generations to follow may enjoy the same gifts. Sometimes, however, we are absorbed into the ways of the world. Thanksgiving Day Mass will be at 9:00 am. Additionally, Friday, November 27th will also be at 9:00 am Children’s Mass will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 24 - all are invited. The Giving Tree will be soon up. Thank you in advance. A very special Thank You to Diana and Steve Bullick for their hard work - Jesus and Jammies was a huge success. The children loved it! Old lyrics to an old song: “For united we stand, divided we fall, and if our backs will ever be against the wall, we’ll be together, you and i.” Our backs aren’t against the wall. But we face real challenges in growing the Church today - everything from practical parish finances to a world that seems indifferent. Maybe even callous. There are no easy solutions. But we know one thing: we’ve got to be united in our mission. We need to see the people that are On Mission with us. Together, you and I. To read more, check out “On Mis-sion for Church Alive!” on page 5 of this weeks Pittsburgh Catholic and visit www.OnMissinChurchAlive.org.

May God’s perfect peace and love remain with you always! ~ Fr. Ken

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: But what kind of a king is Jesus? Let us take a look at him: he is riding on a donkey, he is not accompanied by a court, he is not surrounded by an army as a symbol of power. He is received by hum-ble people, simple folk who have the sense to see something more in Jesus. ~ Homily, March 24, 2013

The office will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holi-day. We will resume normal hours on Monday, November 30.

Saints and Special Observances Sunday: Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - This is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. On this day, we contemplate the kingship of Jesus our Redeemer. Established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations Monday: St. Clement I - Was the third to govern the Church of Rome after the Apostle Peter. He wrote a splendid letter to the Corinthians in order to reestablish peace and harmony in that community. St. Columban - Was educated in sacred and profane letters. He became a monk, crossed over to France and there founded several monasteries of strict discipline. He founded the monastery of Bobbio. Blessed Miguel Agustín - In 1911 he entered the Society of Jesus. He studied in the USA, Spain and Belgium, where he was ordained. He teturned to Mexico, and had to carry our his priestly ministry secretly because of religious persecution. However, he was arrested on false charges and we condemned to death, and died on Novem-ber 23, 1927 Tuesday: St. Andrew Dung-Lac and Companions - One of 117 people martyred in Vietnam between 1820 and 1862. Members of this group were beatified on four different occa-sions between 1900 and 1951. All were canonized by St. John Paul II. The king of one of the kingdoms banned all foreign missionaries and tried to make all Vietnamese deny their faith by trampling on a crucifix. Like the priest-holes in Ireland during English persecution, many hiding places were offered in homes of the faithful. Wednesday: St. Catherine of Alexandria - According to the Legend of St. Catherine, this young woman converted to Chris-tianity after receiving a vision. At the age of 18, she debated 50 pagan philosophers. Amazed at her wisdom and debating skills, they became Christians—as did about 200 soldiers and members of the emperor’s family. All of them were martyred. Sentenced to be executed on a spiked wheel, Catherine touched the wheel and it shattered. She was beheaded. Centuries later, angels are said to have carried the body of St. Catherine to a monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai, Patroness of students, teach-ers, librarians and lawyers.
