PRAY FOR OUR NEW GROUPING Keep the folks of St. Felix, Holy

Family, and SS Peter & Paul parishes in your prayers. I’m sure they too are

praying for us.

A prophet “No” Nearly 740 doctors in Quebec have done something sel-dom seen in modern medicine—or in any professional field, for that matter: they turned down a pay raise! This past February (2018) the doctors, residents and medi-cal students petitioned the provincial government in Quebec to take money that would have been used to increase their in-comes and give it to nurses and other health care workers who are dealing with crushing workloads and limited resources. The pay raises amount to just under two percent. But the group of doctors—a small minority within Quebec’s medial community—believes turning back the raises is a first step in changing a medical system that has revolved too much around physicians and hospitals at the expense of patient care and services. The doctors call the proposed pay increases “indecent” in light of the growing awareness of the low pay and heavy workload among Quebec’s nurses, who are forced to work repeated overtime, sometimes mandatory, because of a chronic lack of staff. In their petition to the government, the doctors wrote: “These increases are all the more shocking because our nurs-es, clerks and other professionals face very difficult working conditions, while our patients live with the lack of access to re-quired services because of the drastic cuts in recent years...We, Quebec doctors, are asking that salary increases granted to physicians be canceled and that the resources of the system be better distributed for the good of the health care workers and to provide health services worthy of the people of Quebec.” The stand by these doctors can only be described as “prophetic”: putting aside one’s own interest for the sake of the greater good, placing justice and compassion before personal profit and gain. Their stand (which has not been welcomed by all doctors in the province of Quebec) mirrors the spirit of John the Baptizer, the last great prophet who heralds the coming of God’s Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, who reveals God’s Kingdom of mercy, justice, reconciliation and peace. As John was called, so are we all called to the work of the prophet—”one who pro-claims.” In baptism, God calls each one of us to be agents of integrity; illuminators of the light of truth in every dark and hid-den place; con-sciences of our homes, our schools, our workplaces. As we celebrate the birth of John, the last great prophet and herald of the Christ, may we re-commit ourselves to the call of our bap-tisms to be proph-ets of God’s mercy and justice along our own highways and Jordan Rivers.

HOW MANY HELLO’S DID YOU RECEIVE? With our new Mass Schedules coming soon, hospitality is es-sential! This means much more than simply offering coffee and cookies after Mass. We emphasize welcoming all people, mak-ing room for them in the pew, helping them feel at home and consciously greeting people from the parking lot to the entrance to participation to departure with coffee and cookies after every Mass. One couple who went to another parish said after their first visit that 13 people had said hello to them by the time they sat down. What’s more, they felt warmth and welcome.

It’s good for all of us to get away for a bit of vaca-tion. Unfortunately, our bills don’t take a vacation. They keep coming—week after week! So, we need your help regularly to be able to take care of them. Also, MAKE CERTAIN YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN KEEP CLOSE TO CHRIST this summer.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Is next weekend, June 30-July 1. This annual collec-tion enables the Holy Father to respond with emer-gency financial assistance to those throughout the world who suffer from war, oppression and natural disasters. Through all works of charity, Catholics provide a powerful witness of love and deeds to em-power the weak, the defenseless, and the voiceless, and to sustain those who suffer. This annual collec-tion is a powerful way for Catholics around the world to help provide this witness to those whom our Holy Father will assist in the name of the Uni-versal Church.

Spirit Refill Program with Mr. John Flaherty

The Spirit Refill Team of St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Ross Township is sponsoring the following program on Wednesday,

June 27th at 7pm in the Church with Mr. John Flaherty, Pastoral Associate, “The One Prayer You Should Never

Skip!” Come and learn the simple, life-changing prayer, the Examen. The Examen is a spir itual practice that was

taught by St. Ignatius of Loyola and takes only 10 to 15 minutes a day. St. Ignatius was adamant that his followers never skip

this simple, but important daily prayer. All parishioners, family,

friends & neighbors are invited to attend.

St. Cecilia Parish Picnic Saturday, July 1, Mass at 12:30

Brady’s Run Lodge, Lunch to follow We are asking that families with names beginning A thru M to bring a dessert serving twelve or so and families with

names beginning N thru Z bring a snack. Side dishes will be provided by the par-ish this year. We will place the snacks

at the dining tables and call tables to the serving line by lottery in order to avoid standing in a long line. So the snacks will be at the table as our appetizers!

We need Volunteers! We will begin set-ting up tables and chairs at 9am. Corn husking beings at 10:30. If you would

like to volunteer to help with games 50/50, etc., just come to the Welcome

table at the lodge before Mass and let us know. We also need help with clean-up

and putting the lodge back in order at the end of the day. This all went very

well last year. There will be plenty of games and

activities, so come and en-joy a good old fashioned

patriotic picnic!

Study St. John’s Gospel with Bro. Andre Repucci, ofm. Cap.

Saturdays: July 7, 14, 21, & 28 10 AM in the Church Hall

The Gospel according to John is quite different in character from the three synoptic gospels. It is highly literary and symbolic. It does not follow the same order or reproduce the same stories as the synoptic gospels. Discover St. John’s meaning.

For You Will Go Before the Lord to Prepare the Way – Today in the Church we celebrate the Birth of Saint John the Baptist, the great forerunner who was sent to

announce the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ and prepare the way for him to fulfill his work in the world. John the Baptist never sought to put the atten-tion on himself, but always pointed the way to Jesus, whom the prophets had foretold would come to save God’s people. He was a faithful instrument of God who desired to decrease so that the power and love of Jesus at work in the lives of his people could in-crease. Since Christ has already come into the world we can’t be his forerunners, but we can prepare the way for him to enter into the hearts and lives of oth-ers. The witness of our prayer, the example of our lives and the encouragement of our words for others can turn their hearts to greater trust in God and his grace at work for them. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! may we seek to prepare the way for others, and be open to the ways in which they will work to make ready the path for God in our hearts. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
