FULMORE MIDDLE SCHOOL

HUMANITIES AND LAW MAGNET FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

Dear Prospective Applicant: Thank you for your interest in the Fulmore Magnet Program. The Fulmore Magnet Program is an advanced academic program with a limited enrollment. Our program, consisting of three hundred plus magnet students from all around the Austin area, is part of the 130 year old Fulmore tradition. Authorized by Austin Independent School District's school board in 2001, Fulmore's Humanities and Law Magnet for International Studies was one of Austin's best kept secrets; it’s not so secret anymore! Enrollment includes 50% identified Gifted and Talented students. We identify sixth grade students and seventh grade students for the Duke Talent Search Program. We offer the ACT and the SAT to help 7th grade students develop their college readiness skills and identify their strengths and growth areas prior to high school. Smaller than its contemporaries, Fulmore's Magnet Program offers personalization for students and a variety of elective choices that correspond with the specialties of the program. The three distinctive strands in law, humanities, and international studies form the basis for our electives in areas for which Fulmore is well-known. Magnet students enroll in language arts, social studies, introduction to law, and introduction to humanities courses designed for Magnet students only. These courses are engaging, literacy rich, and move at an accelerated pace. Concepts in English Language Arts and Social Studies are intertwined to support students in making deep connections about the world around them. Magnet electives, while populated primarily by magnet students, are open to all Falcons. Fulmore magnet students also enjoy challenging math and science classes including Environmental Science, Forensic Science, High School level Algebra I and Geometry. Magnet students are asked to participate in at least 10 hours of service to their communities per year and to engage in at least two of the many academic or extracurricular competitions available to all Falcons. These activities build a sense of civic responsibility, engage students in the Fulmore community, and support students in building strong resumes. Fulmore offers a variety of after school clubs where students have the opportunity to make friends from all walks of life. Free late buses depart from Fulmore at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday so that Magnet students can participate in all after school activities. AISD provides bus transportation for any student accepted to Fulmore Magnet who lives within AISD boundaries. What makes Fulmore special? Parents say that Fulmore provides a comfortable environment where students are free to explore their strengths and discover more about who they are and in what they believe. The Application Checklist will help you organize your materials. Please complete this form neatly and accurately. These application materials will allow us to assess your qualifications and predict your potential success in our program. All information must be completed, signed and returned by 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 5th, 2016. If you are currently in an AISD school, you must include your student number, which can be found on your report card. Please note that AISD now has opened enrollment to out of district transfers. The Fulmore Magnet faculty and I look forward to receiving your completed application. If you need any assistance in completing this application, please call 512-841-4916 and we will be happy to help you. On March 11th we will mail you information about the status of your application to the Magnet Program. Sincerely, Leigh Northcutt-Benson Director of Magnet Program

PROGRAMA AVANZADO DE HUMANIDADES Y LEYES PARA ESTUDIOS INTERNACIONALES

Estimado Futuro Solicitante:

return for attendance purposes.

Because Fulmore is committed to providing the best possible shadowing experience for every student, we must limit the number of

students who shadow on any particular day. Therefore, students may or may not receive their first choice of dates. Also, due to the high

demand for this opportunity, students who need to cancel or forget to come on their appointed day may not be given the chance to

reschedule.

Submit your request directly to our campus via email, fax or mail to Fulmore Middle School; Magnet Office; 201 E. Mary St., Austin,

TX. 78704, *Phone 512-841-4916 * Fax 512-414-0470. *email: [email protected]
