    Gator Pride!

I am thrilled to share two celebrations with you!

2011 Reflections Award Ceremony13 Garden Gate students were honored at Monday night's 6th PTA

Council 2011 Reflections Award Ceremony. The 6th Council is

comprised of Cupertino, Fremont and Sunnyvale School Districts.

Garden Gate submitted the largest number of entries in the

    council - 145 entries!

Gators go to Destination ImagiNation State Finals!

Two teams of students, facilitated by parents, have been sent on

to the state level competition! Join me in congratulating the second

grade "Creative Stars" team: Akil Manjesh, Santhosh Ravindrabharathy, Sirkar

Sanchu, Sherya Soma, and Neha Washikar. And, the fifth grade "Inventing Stars" team:

Pranav Muthuram, Pavithra Pandian, Varun Soma and Swetha Sunil! A very special thank

you to the parents who gave so generously of their time and energy for our children! To

learn more about DestiNation Imagination, visit: http://www.destinationimagination.org/

You make us proud! Go, go Gators!

    Great Schools Grocery Days

You need to shop for groceries anyway - why not support CUSD schools while doing so?

Shop at Whole Foods on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. 5% of all sales will go to CUSD

    STAR Testing

The two-week multiple choice STAR Test window for grades two through five begins April 2

2011. Please refrain from scheduling appointments for your child during the school day

between April 25 and May 6. Additionally, please be sure children get a full nights sleep,

eat breakfast, and have snacks. Concentration is difficult when children are tired or hungry

    Traffic During Drop-Off and Pick-Up

I have been in contact with the Cupertino Sheriff's Department for

support around our on-going traffic concerns. Any cars that are left

unattended along the yellow curb, or in the pass-through lane may be

ticketed. The yellow curb in the front of the school is for loading or un-loading only - it is not a place to park a car. Cars parked along the cu

not only back up traffic out onto Greenleaf, but in an emergency would

prohibit emergency vehicles from entering. Cars must be parked in

designated parking spaces or on the street. Thank you for your suppor

    in this matter.

hildren, we need 15 adult volunteers who can work thefferent stations. If you are available from 6-9 p.m. and enjoyorking with children and hands-on science projects, pleaseontact Patti Wolf at [email protected].

ead LiceWe have had several cases of head lice inthe last few weeks. Your child may havereceived an exposure notice from theoffice. Lice, which are a common age-oldpest, are easily transferred from person toperson. All age groups and localities aresusceptible. Cleanliness does not seem tobe a significant factor; lice are attracted toall children. Lice are more frequentlytransmitted through combs and brushes.Baseball hats are also popular places forhead lice.

etection - How to spot lice:its (eggs). Nits look similar to very small grains of rice ande attached to the shaft of the hair. They do not dislodge

asily. They feel like a small grain of sand, but will not move ifcked with the finger.

ce. Lice are small, gray and have six legs. They can easilyawl from head to head. Unusual scratching and itching of the

calp, especially behind the ears, may indicate the presence ofce.

reatment:Wash the childs hair with a head lice shampoo. It is essential

follow treatment directions recommended by your

hysician or pharmacist. In addition, consult a physician orharmacist regarding the treatment of family members.epeat treatment in 10 days. Comb the hair with a head liceomb to remove the nits. Wash all affected combs, brushes, aseball hats, clothing and bedding in hot soap and waterheets, blankets, towels, etc.) and dry in the sun if possible.pecial sprays are available at the drugstore to spray therniture and rugs in the home, and the upholstery in the car.

Please inform your child that sharing hats, hairbrushes or oitems that come into contact with the head is likely to spreahead lice. Please have your child check in the office before

returning to his/her class. Your child will be readmitted toschool after an inspection reveals that no nits or lice remaithe hair. Thank you for your cooperation.

Do Your Children Know TheirHome Phone Number?Almost every afternoon students come intothe office to call home, but cant do itbecause they dont know their phonenumber. We suggest that you encourageyour child to memorize phone numbers orwrite down important phone numbers andhave your child keep them in his/herbackpack. Knowing a phone number to contact a family

member is very important and helps children feel more secwhen they know that they can reach you in an emergency

Updating Residency InformationPlease be aware that district guidelines require that anychange of residence must be reported to the school officewithin ten (10) days. This guideline is in place to ensure thathe address and contact information that the school has onis accurate. This information is crucial and is used to sendofficial school/district correspondence and it is used in the of an emergency. Failure to provide current residencyinformation could result in the immediate withdrawal of you

child. If you have any questions regarding this guideline, pcontact the school office..

Safety Tips. . .Never leave your vehicle in the parking lotunattended. Use corners and crosswalks to get toschool. Crossing between parked cars isvery dangerous. Always come to a complete stop at stopsigns and make sure the intersection isclear before proceeding. Yield the right of way to children and all

pedestrians. Do not block neighbors driveways. Please be respectful to our traffic volunteers. They are outhere to keep our children safe!
