General Manager - Adelaide Thunderbirds & Elite Pathways Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager - Adelaide Thunderbirds & Elite Pathways is responsible for planning, driving and evaluating all elements of the department to ensure the sustained success of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the elite netball pathway in South Australia. As part of the senior executive team, this role manages a key department within the Netball SA operations, providing strategic and operational management and leadership to the department to ensure the delivery of the department’s core business activities and strategic objectives. The role will scope, facilitate and secure all necessary resourcing including the employment and engagement of key staff, contractors, service providers and other external facilitators to deliver the Adelaide Thunderbirds and other associated elite high performance programs including the Southern Force and Netball SA State teams. To be considered for this role you will need to be a dynamic leader with an ability to swiftly build relationships, credibility and strategic partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will either be a senior manager with an understanding of elite sport and the ability to demonstrate transferable skills, or an experienced High Performance professional. Regardless, you must demonstrate the ability to drive strategy with strong marketing, commercial, analytical, negotiation and financial budget management skills. A netball background is not essential; however you must have a strong ambition for the sport’s success. Management and Stakeholder Relations

• Oversee a world class high performance and elite pathway program and drive the strategic direction of the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Southern Force and State underage programs.

• Deliver sustained success and departmental strategic objectives and KPIs by leading, driving and managing all department staff and athletes, in conjunction with the Adelaide Thunderbirds Head Coach and the Netball SA senior management team.

• Oversee the Adelaide Thunderbirds recruitment and contracting process, in conjunction with the Adelaide Thunderbirds Head Coach, to ensure the team has sustained success.

• Build and leverage formal and informal high-performing, cross functional partnerships to build expertise and achieve high performance outcomes across the department.

• Develop a network of specialists who collaborate on all servicing areas of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Southern Force, including but not limited to medical, physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, nutrition, athlete load management and well-being.

• Develop strong relationships and partnerships with program partners (Netball Australia and SASI) and work collaboratively to assist with and integrate programs for the targeted development of high performance coaches, athletes and service staff.

• Ensure compliance of the team and staff with all obligations of the organisation’s policies and procedures and SSN documentation including the Team Participation Agreement, Collective Player Agreement, Competition Rules and Commercial Manual.

• Oversee all reporting, communication and education requirements to ensure the teams, staff, department and organisation comply with all Netball Australia and ASADA integrity requirements.

Internal Processes

• Develop and review systems to achieve best practice and integrated delivery models across all programs and activities that support a world class netball program to drive sustained success.

• Establish and drive tailored competency based capability programs for all team and department staff.

• Establish a comprehensive integrity framework to ensure the compliance and accountability of all programs, staff and the organisation with legislative requirements.

• Research technology and systems to enhance service and program delivery and drive high-performance outcomes.

• Provide accurate and timely monthly reports to the CEO and Board that outline achievement against the organisation’s strategic objectives and set KPIs.

People and Learning

• Provide strong leadership, direction and mentoring to department and team staff to build capability and delivery of performance that aligns to success through tailored skill development.

• Create a learning environment by monitoring staff performance and providing timely feedback that fosters encouragement and innovation for progression and succession.

Selection Criteria

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Strong experience in a management position and an understanding of elite sport.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in sport management/business or significant relevant business and management experience.

• Demonstrated ability to drive strategy and to lead and motivate teams to achieve set objectives.

• Highly developed business and commercial acumen. • Experience in allocating and managing financial resources to

support program and department performance outcomes. • Outstanding relationship management, negotiation and

conflict resolution skills. • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the key

components / levers for the delivery of successful elite sports programs.

• Success in building a high performance culture and the management of multi-disciplinary teams.

• Knowledge and understanding of frameworks and tools that may assist to strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas of high performance coaches, athletes and service providers.

• Knowledge of best practice interactions between performance staff, coaches and athletes to achieve performance improvement.

• Experience and success in building strategic partnerships and building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Given the unique nature of the sports industry, working outside of office hours, including weekends will be required, particularly during the competition season. Some flexibility on the hours worked may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Remuneration

An attractive, market competitive remuneration package will be available to the successful candidate, negotiable depending upon skill level and experiences. At the time of applying, candidates are invited to indicate their current salary and salary expectations.

Location and Travel

This position is located at the Netball South Australia offices located at the Priceline Stadium, 155 Railway Terrace, Mile End South, SA.

Domestic travel will be required from time to time to attend games, meetings, functions and events. There is a potential for some international travel.
