(Note)The post-grant opposition system was introduced for patents and utility models in January 1996, and for trademarks in April 1997. Due to the periods required for publication of gazettes and fi ling of oppositions , it was not until the end of the year of introduction that oppositions were fi led on a full scale, and it was not until the following year trial examinations on oppositions actually started.
