FORIMMEDIATERELEASE;February20,2014—SantaFe,NewMexico—TheGeorgiaO’KeeffeMuseumisproudtopresentatributededicatedtoAlfredStieglitzmarkingthe150th anniversary of his birth. A noted photographer,publisher, galleryowner andmodern-art pioneer aswellas mentor, promoter and husband of Georgia O’Keeffe,Stieglitzwasaremarkablemanwholeftanindeliblemarkon the history of art. To celebrate his contributions, theGeorgia O’Keeffe Museum will preview the short film,LookingforMr.Stieglitz,bySteveZeifman,followedbyaconversation on Stieglitz’s life and legacy on March 2,2014from3:30-5:00pm.
“Even during his lifetime, Stieglitz was a near mythicalfigure whose importance is almost impossible tooverstate,” saidCodyHartley,GeorgiaO’KeeffeMuseumdirector of curatorial affairs. “Without Stieglitz, therewould be no Georgia O’Keeffe as we know her and the
entirehistoryofModernismwouldbemuchpoorer.”
Following the film screening, curators and filmmakers will be on-hand to discuss Stieglitz’sinfluence includingCodyHartley; KateWare, filmmaker andCurator of Photography at theNewMexicoMuseumofArt;aswellasfilmmakerSteveZeifmanof291FilmPartners.Looking for Mr. Stieglitz is a 2013, 15-minute film that follows an episode in Stieglitz’s career.FilmedinNewMexicoandcreatedbylocalfilmmakers,thefilmstarsRacheldeLaTorreandToneForrest.
TheAlfred Stieglitz tributewill be held from3:30 to 5:00pm at theGeorgiaO’KeeffeMuseum’sEducationAnnex locatedat123GrantAvenue.Cost is$8 for thegeneralpublic,$5 forMuseumMembersandBusinessPartners.Reservationsaresuggested,pleasecall5059461039orregisteronlineatwww.okeeffemuseum.org.
