Malfunction Indicator Lamp(Service Engine Soon Lamp)

This instrument panel lamp illuminatesunder a variety of conditions when theOn-Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) systemdetects a malfunction in the vehicle’semission controls.If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp is litsteadily, check the gas cap to ensureit is present and secure• Turn the cap clockwise until a “ratch-

eting” sound is heard, signaling that itis secure.

• If this is the cause of the condition, afew driving trips with the cap installedproperly should turn the light off.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual

Driver Information Center(if equipped)

The Driver Information Center (DIC) fea-tures a message center that can displaytrip information, fuel economy informa-tion, personalization features and othermessages or warnings.The DIC displayis located above the steering wheel onthe instrument cluster, and can be pro-grammed in three languages. To accessthe various DIC modes, press one ofthe four DIC buttons located on thesteering wheel: Trip Information, FuelInformation, Personalization or Select.

Trip Information Button: Press to access each of the odometer,

TRIP A, TRIP B and TIMER functions.To reset either trip odometer to zero,access it on the DIC and press theSelect button ( ) for one second, orpress and hold the reset stem on theinstrument cluster. Use the TIMER function to time thelength of your trip, pressing to startor stop the timer when the function isdisplayed on the DIC. To reset it to zero,press and hold when the function isdisplayed on the DIC.Fuel Information Button: Press

to access the range, average fueleconomy, fuel used and GM Oil LifeSystemTM status.RANGE estimates the remaining dis-tance you can drive without refueling. It is based on recent fuel economy andremaining fuel.AVG ECON calculates how many milesper gallon you are getting based on cur-rent and past driving conditions. Pressand hold the reset button while it is dis-played and the DIC will begin calculatingaverage fuel economy from that point intime.

FUEL USED shows the current amountof fuel used in gallons since the lastreset for FUEL USED. This mode shouldbe reset after every fuel tank fill-up.ENGINE OIL LIFE calculates an estimat-ed percentage of the engine oil’sremaining useful life and alerts the driverwhen it’s time to change the oil by illumi-nating the CHANGE ENG OIL light onthe instrument cluster. Please rememberto always reset the oil life system afteran oil change by pressing and holding

for four seconds while ENGINE OILLIFE is displayed. When successful, theDIC displays ENGINE OIL LIFE: 100%.For complete engine oil information, see Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Vehicle PersonalizationDepending on the equipment ordered onyour vehicle, you could personalize awide variety of preferences on the DIC.Only the features included on your vehi-cle will be displayed by the DIC.Personalization features can include:• Alarm Warning Type• Automatic Locking and Unlocking• Perimeter Lighting• Remote Lock and Unlock Feedback• Headlamps On at Exit

• Mirror Curb View Assist• Easy Exit Driver Seat• Display Units (English/Metric)• Display LanguagePersonalization Button: Up to two people can program individualized settings. Press once and current-driv-er preferences will be displayed. Anychanges made at this time affect onlythe displayed driver. Press the buttonagain to scroll through and personalizemenu features.Select Button: When scrolling throughthe personalization features, pressto scroll through the choices provided foreach menu item. When you find thechoice you want, press to select itand move on to the next feature. Toreset all personalization features to theirdefault settings, hold and down forfour seconds. Driver preferences arerecalled by pressing memory button #1or #2 located on the driver’s door.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Heated Front Seats (if equipped)

Heated Seats (if equipped): The but-tons to control this feature are locatedon the front door armrests. Controls canbe set to heat the seatback only or theseatback and the seat cushion. Thethree lights next to the controls indicateLO, MED or HI setting. Push the BACKONLY switch (“B” above) to activateheat for the seatback only. An indicatorlight illuminates when the seatback isbeing heated. Push the horizontal switch(“A” above) to heat the whole seat.

See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Interior LampsYour vehicle is equipped with illuminatedentry and exit lighting as well as readinglamps and dome lamps.Activate illuminated entry feature• Open a door or press the UNLOCK

button on your Remote Keyless Entrytransmitter.

• With all doors closed, the domelamps stay illuminated briefly and turnoff automatically.

Disable entry and exit lighting • Push the DOME OVERRIDE button

located below the exterior lampsswitch. This will disable the illuminat-ed entry feature unless the RemoteKeyless Entry transmitter is used tounlock the vehicle. The DomeOverride feature is useful when thevehicle doors need to be open for along period of time.

Select airflow source• Turn the MODE knob on the right of

Raise or lower fan speed• Turn the fan control ( ) knob.Adjust the dual temperature controls• Use the lever on the left-hand side of

• Use the right-hand lever to adjust thetemperature on the right side of thevehicle and the temperature for thesecond row.

Cool the vehicle interior more quicklyon very hot days• Choose the coolest temperature

setting.• Activate the RECIRCULATE ( )

and A/C ( ) buttons.• Place the A/C mode knob in the

VENT ( ) mode.• Open the windows just long enough

to let the hot air escape.Turn on the rear window defogger• Press the rear window defogger

( ) button.• An indicator light on the button will

illuminate when the rear windowdefogger is active.

Dual Automatic Climate Control(if equipped)

Manually raise or lower fan speed• Press the upper or lower portion of

the FAN control ( ) button.Manually adjust the dual temperaturecontrols• Use the knob on the left-hand side of

the climate control panel to adjust thetemperature on the driver side of thevehicle. Use the right-hand knob toadjust the temperature on the pas-senger side of the vehicle as well asthe second row.

• To match and link the passenger-sidetemperature to the driver’s setting,press and hold the AUTO button forthree seconds.

Recirculate interior air and preventoutside air from entering your vehicle• Press the RECIRCULATE ( )

button.This feature can be activated while inthe VENT or BI-LEVEL mode, but not inDEFOG, DEFROST or FLOOR mode.Clear the windshield and front sidewindows of fog or frost more quickly• Press the FRONT DEFROST ( )

button.Clear the rear glass of fog or frostmore quickly, and activate the heatedoutside rearview mirrors (if equipped)• Press the REAR DEFOG ( )

Rear Seat Climate Controls

Turn the rear controls on and off• Press the Power ( ) button. (Note:

The rear controls do not functionwhen the front climate control is onand in DEFROST mode.)

Increase or decrease fan speed• Press the Fan ( ) up or down

arrows to increase or decrease fanspeed.

Change the direction of airflow• Use the mode knob on SLE models

or the arrows ( ) on SLT modelsto select UPPER, BI-LEVEL orFLOOR.

Set the temperature of air through therear outlets • Temperature of air from the rear

outlets is determined by the front passenger temperature setting.

Content Theft-Deterrent SystemThe Content Theft-Deterrent System hasa red indicator lamp on the instrumentpanel that is labeled SECURITY. Thesystem can be activated in two ways:• Press the LOCK button on the

Remote Keyless Entry key fob afterclosing all doors.

• Press the power door LOCK switchwith the door open.

The alarm is not armed until the SECURITY light turns off (after a delayof approximately 30 seconds).If the alarm is tripped, the horn soundsfor 30 seconds, and the headlamps andparking lamps also flash for two minutesto get visual attention. The alarm soundswhenever a locked door is opened without the key or Remote Keyless Entrytransmitter. See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Headlamp Controls

The exterior lamps knob is located onthe instrument panel, to the left of thesteering wheel. Turn off the Daytime Running Lamps(DRL) and automatic headlamps• Move the knob to the OFF ( )

position. Activate the automatic headlamp system• Move the knob to the AUTO ( )

position.• All exterior lamps and the instrument

panel/radio lights will illuminate whenthey are needed.

Manually illuminate the parkinglamps, side-marker lamps, taillamps,instrument panel/radio lights andlicense plate lamps• Move the knob to the parking lamp

position ( ).Manually activate the headlamps, all exterior tail/side-marker lamps andthe instrument panel/radio lights• Move the knob to the ON ( )

Heated, Power Outside Mirrors(if equipped)

Activate heated, power outside mirrors • Press the rear window defogger

( ) button on the climate controlpanel.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)

Turn off DRL while idling the vehicle• Set the parking brake with the ignition

off.• DRLs will stay off until the parking

brake is released, or the shift lever ismoved from the Park (P) position.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Electric Adjustable Pedals

You can adjust the brake and accelera-tor pedals to a comfortable positionusing the toggle switch located on thesteering column near the tilt steering column lever.• Press the switch toward you to move

the pedals closer to you.• Press the switch away from you to

move the pedals away from you.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Note: The pedals cannot be positionedfarther away from the driver than theyare in their standard position. This fea-ture can be programmed to work withthe memory function on your vehicle.

Fog Lamps

The fog lamps button is locatedon the instrumentpanel to the rightof the exteriorlamps switch.Activate the foglamps• Press the button once to activate the

Outside Mirror with Curb ViewAssist (if equipped)

This feature automatically adjusts thepassenger side mirror downward to apreset tilt position when the vehicle is inReverse gear. The mirror returns to itsnormal position when the vehicle ismoved out of Reverse. See your OwnerManual to activate this system for thefirst time.See Sections 2 and 3 of your Owner Manual.

Entertainment Systems

Set the timeYour radio may have a button marked“H” or “HR” to represent hours and an“M” or “MIN” to represent minutes.• Press and hold the hour button until

the correct hour appears on the display.

• Press and hold the minute buttonuntil the correct minute appears onthe display.

The time may be set with the ignition onor off.Set the time to an FM station’s RadioData System (RDS) setting • Press and hold both hour and minute

buttons at the same time for two seconds until UPDATED and the clock symbol appear on the display.

If the time is not available from the station, NO UPDATE or NO UPDATappears in the display (as applies toyour radio).

Program radio station presets• Turn the radio on.• Press BAND to select the band

(AM, FM1/FM2/XM1/XM2).• Use the seek button or tune knob to

tune in the desired station.• Press AUTO EQ or AUTO TONE (as

applicable to your radio) to select theequalization that best suits the type ofstation selected.

• Press and hold one of the six num-bered buttons until a beep sounds;release the button.

Repeat these steps for each station pre-set, using a different numbered buttonfor each station.Activate the Radio Data System(RDS) traffic announcement feature(MP3 radio if equipped)• Press TRAF. <TRAF> will appear on

the display if the tuned station broad-casts traffic announcements.

If the tuned station does not broadcasttraffic announcements, the radio willseek a station that does. If no station isfound, NO TRAF appears on the display. Display a station’s INFO messagewhen INFO appears on the display• Press INFO to see the message.

Once the complete message hasbeen displayed, INFO disappearsfrom the display.

Tune to an RDS broadcast of a selected program type• Press the TYPE button to select the

Program Type you want to listen to. • Press the or button.

Headlamp Washers (if equipped)

Access one of the two available XMSatellite Radio bands (if equipped)• Press the BAND button until XM1 or

XM2 appears on the display.

Load one CD into the Six-Disc CDplayer (if equipped)• With the ignition on, press and

release the LOAD side of the LOADCD button.

• Wait for the indicator light at the rightside of the slot to turn green.

• Insert the disc partway into the slot,label side up; the player will pull thedisc in.

Load multiple CDs• With the ignition on, press and hold

the LOAD button for two seconds.The unit beeps and the light to theright of the slot begins to flash.

• When the light stops flashing andturns green, insert a disc partway,label side up.

• The indicator light will begin blinkingand then turn green. Load anotherdisc at this time.

• When loading more than one but less than six CDs, press the LOADbutton again to signal that loading iscomplete.

• When more than one disc is loaded,a number for each disc is displayed.

• To play a specific CD, press the CDAUX button and then the number ofthe CD you want to hear.

• A small bar appears under the CDnumber that is playing, and the tracknumber appears.

RainsenseTM Wipers (if equipped)

Rainsense Wipers automatically controlthe frequency of the wipers from OFF toHIGH speed according to the amount ofmoisture on the windshield.Activate the Rainsense feature• Set the wipers to one of five moisture

sensitivity settings on the multifunc-tion lever.

• The closer the setting is to the OFFposition, the less sensitive it will be tomoisture.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Turn this feature off before entering an automatic car wash.

HomeLink® UniversalTransmitter

This programmable transmitter can storethree frequencies for items such as agarage door opener, entry door lock orsecurity system. With the ignition OFF,program the transmitter as follows:• Press and hold the two outside but-

tons and release when the indicatorlight begins to flash (about 20 sec-onds; do not repeat this step whenprogramming second and third trans-mitter buttons).

• Hold the end of your hand-held trans-mitter up to three inches away fromthe surface of the universal transmit-ter and simultaneously hold down the transmitter button and the buttonon the HomeLink® unit you wish toprogram.

• The HomeLink® indicator light willbegin blinking slowly. Programming iscomplete when the light on theHomeLink® transmitter flashes rapidly.

• Release both buttons.• Press and hold the newly pro-

grammed HomeLink® button. If thelight stays on constantly, program-ming is complete and should operateyour device when pressed andreleased.

For garage door openers with a “rollingcode,” continue with the following steps:• Firmly press the training button (usu-

ally marked “LEARN” or “SMART”) onthe garage door opener motor headunit near the antenna.

• Within 30 seconds, press and holdthe HomeLink® transmitter button pro-grammed in the previous steps fortwo seconds.

• Press and release this button twicemore for two seconds each time.

Note: To ensure successful HomeLink®

transmitter programming, it’s importantthat your garage door opener battery bewell charged.

Sun Visors• To help block the sun’s glare, rotate

the sun visor down. • You can block the driver or passenger

front-side window glare by turning thesun visor to the side window.

• The sun visor can be extended bysliding it along the attachment bar toprovide improved shielding on theside windows.

Air Inflator System (if equipped)Locate the airinflator unit• The inflator unit

and an on/offswitch are locat-ed behind anaccess cover inthe rear compart-ment on the driv-er side of thevehicle near thetailgate.

• A 22-foot hose and three nozzleadapters are located in the glove box.

Use the air inflator• Open the access cover.• Attach the appropriate nozzle adapter

to the end of the hose (if required).• Attach that end of the hose to the

object you are inflating. Attach theother end of the hose to the inflatoroutlet.

• Press and release the on/off switch toturn the air inflator on.

• An indicator light verifies that theinflator is running.

• When inflation is complete, press andrelease the on/off switch again.

• Remove the hose from the outlet(load leveling will not operate whenthe hose is attached to the outlet).

Four-Wheel Drive (if equipped)

Envoy XUV’s four-wheel drive systemrotary controls are located on the instru-ment panel.Shift into 4HI or A4WD • Turn the knob to 4HI or A4WD. This

can be done at any speed exceptwhen shifting from 4LO.

Shift into 2HI• Turn the knob to 2HI. This can be

done at any speed except when shift-ing from 4LO.

Shift into or out of 4LO• With the ignition in RUN and the vehi-

cle stopped or moving less than 3mph (4.8 km/h), shift the transmissioninto Neutral.

• Turn the knob to 4LO or 2HI, 4HI orA4WD, preferably with the vehiclemoving 1 to 2 mph (1.6 to 3.2 km/h).

• Wait for the indicator lamp to stopflashing and remain illuminated; thenshift your transmission into gear.

Shift into NEUTRAL (N)• Place the transfer case in Neutral

only when towing your vehicle. See Section 4 of your Owner Manual for towing information.

Traction Assist System (if equipped)

The Traction Assist System (TAS) limitswheelspin and operates only if it sensesthat one or both rear wheels are begin-ning to lose traction. When this hap-pens, engine power is reduced to limitwheelspin. You may hear or feel the sys-tem working. The system is automatical-ly enabled whenever the engine is started. Turn the system OFF or ON• Press the TAS ON/OFF button locat-

ed near the shift lever.• With the system off, the TRAC

ON/OFF button indicator light comeson until TAS is turned back on or thevehicle is turned off and restarted.

Midgate™ with Power GlassYour Envoy XUV is equipped with aMidgate and power Midgate glass. Lower the Midgate• Fold and tumble the rear seats. You

may have to move the front seats for-ward slightly. Make sure the headrestraints are fully down.

• Pull the front of the seat release lever(marked “1”) up and fold the seatbackforward and fold flat.

• Pull up on the rear of the lever(marked “2”) and tumble the seat forward.

• Press and hold the overhead consolebutton ( 1) to lower the Midgateglass. Make sure to lower the glasscompletely before lowering theMidgate.

• Clip the second-row seat belts intothe retainers mounted on the pillarjust below where the seat belt passesthrough the trim panel to help keepthe seat belts from getting tangledwhen raising or lowering the Midgate.

• Press the Midgate release button onthe driver’s side of the Midgate andpull the release handle to lower theMidgate. Apply light downward pres-sure to the Midgate until it locks intothe lowered position.

Raise the Midgate• Pull the latch lever located on the

floor of the driver’s side of the vehicle; then raise the Midgate andlock into full upright position.

• Make certain to fully close theMidgate. The Midgate must be fullyupright and in the latched position toraise the Midgate glass.

• If the Midgate is not fully closed andlatched, a “MIDGATE AJAR” mes-sage will be displayed on the instru-ment cluster. Open the Midgate andclose it again, making sure it issecurely in the up and latched position.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Dual Function TailgateYour vehicle’s tailgate can swing open tothe right or be lowered to a flat position. Raise or lower the tailgate/tailgateglassThe tailgate glass is power-operatedand must be fully lowered before lower-ing the tailgate. The tailgate glass canbe in any position to swing the tailgateopen. The control is located in the over-head console.

• Press and hold the overhead consolebutton ( 2) to lower or raise thetailgate glass.

• Press and hold the back of the overhead console button to raise the glass.

You can also raise or lower the tailgateglass with the key and tailgate key cylinder.• Insert the key into the cylinder on the

tailgate and turn and hold the key inthe clockwise position to lower thetailgate glass.

• Turn and hold the key in the counter-clockwise position to raise the tailgateglass.

• The roof must be in the fully closedposition to raise the glass.

• You can also lower the tailgate glassby pressing the button twice on theRemote Keyless Entry transmitter.

• If the roof is not fully closed, a“CLOSE THE ROOF” message willappear on the Driver Message Center display when you try to raisethe tailgate glass.

• You can alsolower the tail-gate glassusing theCargo AreaWindow but-ton. The largeyellow buttonlocated in the cargo area next to thewindow serves as an emergencyrelease for the cargo area. Press andrelease the button to fully lower thetailgate glass. The vehicle must be inPark (P).Caution: Leaving children, helplessadults, or pets in a vehicle with the

windows closed is dangerous. Theycan be overcome by the extremeheat and suffer permanent injuries oreven death from heatstroke. Neverleave a child, a helpless adult, or apet alone in a vehicle. If you do put apet in the cargo area, open theMidgate window while driving, andthe roof and tailgate window whileparked, and check periodically thatthe ventilation is adequate. At a mini-mum, open the Midgate window whiledriving, and the roof and tailgate win-dow while parked, if you put a pet inthe cargo area.

Resetting Tailgate Window Position• If the tailgate drop/swing, power roof,

rear wiper and rear window defoggerare inoperative, or if the “SEE MANUAL — TAILGATE” message isdisplayed on the Driver MessageCenter, reset the tailgate windowposition.– Press and hold the front of the

overhead console button and continue to hold the switch for at least two seconds after the window is fully closed.

– Press and hold the rear of the overhead console button to lower the tailgate glass and continue to hold the switch for at least two seconds after the window is fully open.

• If these steps do not restore functions, see your dealer for service.

Lower the tailgateThere are two pressure switches on thetailgate handle — one on the left andthe other in the center.

To lower the tailgate: • Unlock all doors.• Lower the tailgate glass.• Grasp the center of the handle and

pull. As you press the switch on theinside of the latch handle you will feelthe tailgate release, allowing you tolower it to the flat position.

• A prop rod on the left side of the tail-gate is available to help supportheavy loads.

• Position the rod over the upper slotted stud on the bodyside panel tosupport flat loads or anytime you areoperating the vehicle with the tailgatein the down position.

• Slightly lift the tailgate, and then posi-tion the prop rod using the lower slot-ted stud to raise and support the tail-gate approximately six degrees inorder to help support long loads like4x8 building materials.

• Press and hold the rear of the Over-head Console Roof button ( ) toclose the roof. (Note: The tailgateglass will not rise automatically oncethe roof is closed.)

• If the roof stops because of anobstruction, “CLEAR ROOF OFOBSTRUCTION” appears on theDriver Message Center. Clear theobstruction and then operate the roof.

• You can also open or close the roofby inserting the key into the rear tail-gate cylinder.

• Turn the key clockwise and hold toopen the roof.

• Turn the key counterclockwise andhold to close the roof.

Reset the roof positionIf “OPEN THE ROOF” appears on theDriver Message Center, the roof positionmay need to be reset.• Place the transmission in

Park (P) and the ignition in RUN or ACCESSORY.

• Press and hold the front of the over-head console roof button.

• When the roof is fully open, “CLOSETHE ROOF” will appear on the DriverMessage Center and a chime willsound.

• Now press and hold the rear of theoverhead console roof button until thewords “ROOF IS CLOSED” appearon the Driver Message Center.

• If the words “ROOF IS CLOSED” donot appear within one minute, or theroof does not operate after the resetprocess, see your dealer.

• When not in use, secure the prop rodin the retaining clip located on theside of the tailgate.

Swing the tailgate open• To swing the tailgate open, grasp

the left side of the tailgate handle andpull toward you; then swing the tailgate to its open position.

• If the rear window is closed, the glasswill open slightly to allow the gate toopen. The glass will then rise to itsfully closed position when the tailgateis shut.

Power Sliding Rear RoofYour vehicle is equipped with a powersliding rear roof. The controls are locat-ed in the overhead console and in thetailgate. • The ignition key must be in the ON

or ACCESSORY position and thetransmission in Park (P).

• Press and hold the front of theOverhead Console Roof button toopen the roof. If the tailgate glass isclosed when you press the switch,the glass first will lower before theroof begins to open.

All-Weather Cargo Area andQuickDrain System

Your vehicle is equipped with cargo areafloor drains and a durable, syntheticcargo mat. Cargo Tie-DownsThere are four movable cargo tie-downsinstalled in the cargo area. The cargotie-downs can be relocated to any of the12 locations in the cargo area.• Remove the cargo

tie-down you wish to move using a 10-millimeter hex headsocket.

• Unscrew andremove the plastic plug in the locationwhere the cargo tie-down is to beinstalled.

• Install the cargo-tie down in new location using a 10-millimeter hexhead socket.

• Install the plastic plug in place of theremoved cargo tie-down by pushing itinto place.

Cargo Area Floor DrainsClean the cargoarea floor drainsperiodically toallow water to exitthe cargo area.• Lower the

Midgate.• Lift the Midgate flap to access the

cargo area floor drain covers.• Remove the pushpin in the top

surface of the floor drain cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

• Lift each floor drain cover straight up.

• Reverse the process to reinstall thecargo area floor drain covers beforeoperating the vehicle.

Remove the cargo area matYou can remove the cargo mat.However, it must beinstalled duringvehicle operation.• Remove the two

pushpins in thetop surface ofthe cargo matwith a Phillipsscrewdriver.

• Push the cargo mat forward as far asit will go.

• Lift up on the tab of the rear of thecargo mat and lift it from the vehicle.

• Reverse the process to reinstall thecargo mat before operating the vehicle.

Electronically Controlled Air Suspension System (if equipped)

The Electronically Controlled AirSuspension System automaticallyadjusts the rear of the vehicle to a levelride height whether it is loaded orunloaded. The system includes an aircompressor, which may produce anoccasional “whirring” or “hissing” soundunder the rear of the vehicle. This soundindicates that the system air compressoris operating to provide a level rideheight, and is normal.See Section 4 of your Owner Manual.
