ACTIVITY Once the water is frozen from earlier today pop the ice out of the containers While getting it ready for play ask your little one if she or he thinks itrsquos ready and how it feels and looks Use words like hard cold white and clear

Fill a sink or a container with about one inch of water Put the ice blocks in the sink or container and add play animals Now your child has a perfect pretend glacier landscape Ask your child how the ice feels cold or hot smooth or rough

Dry version - To make this activity less wet feel free to put the blocks of ice on a large towel instead of in the water Your child can still pretend that the animals are on a glacier

The dry version of this activity is a great opportunity to encourage your child to play independently Be sure to remove the ice when it melts small enough to become a choking hazard
