Dear Parents and Carers,

GOLD Sports Mark

We are delighted to announce that, for the second year

running, Twyford St. Mary’s has been awarded the Gold

School Games Mark due to our commitment to the

development of competition, school sport and physical

education for all children at our school. The School Games

Mark is a Government led award scheme, facilitated by the

Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to

the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we

are thrilled to have been recognised for our success. Many thanks and

congratulations for a good job well done to Miss Etheridge for her coordination and

leadership of this. Is there a Platinum Mark?

Transition Morning

We had an extremely successful transition morning

this week with another one planned for next week.

This is where all the children spend time in their new

classes with the new adults they’ll be working with in

September. The vast majority of children embrace

this with excitement and eagerness despite a few

small reservations and fears. As a school, we recognise the latter and develop a

positive understanding of the inevitable: change and new beginnings. As parents, we

would always encourage the same approach in order for this process to be as

smooth as possible.

Mary Poppins

A montage of just some of the highlights…. Great acting, Working 9 to 5 dance, lengthy line learning, exits and entrances, solos and duets, Just a spoonful of Sugar, props galore rapidly moving on and off the stage, the circus came to town, lengthy line learning, exits and entrances, solos, Supercallifragilisticexpialidocious, ‘practically perfect in every way’, ‘In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun’ - what a great show they put on!

We are so proud of our children in every way; they never cease to amaze us! From the collection, you raised £288.03, to be split equally between our chosen charity Shelterbox and also next year’s production. Thank you for your generosity. Many thanks go to Kat Molesworth for taking some wonderful photos of the play. The full set of photos can be found via a dropbox link which has been sent out in a separate parentmail.

Senior Citizen’s Tea Party

On Monday, we welcomed local senior citizens from Brackenlea Care Home for a

tea party. Our choir performed beautifully to entertain our guests, with Livi and Rosie

also singing solos. Year 6 also sang a medley of Mary Poppins songs as well as

performing their Glenn Miller dance from the Summer Fair. Special thanks must go

to Mrs Parker who came along to lead our choir.

Strawberry Tea

It was a week of tea parties this week, as on Tuesday we welcomed an amazing

group of parents, governors and grandparents who regularly help in all aspects of

school life – with trips, workshops, reading in class, on the PTA committee etc. We

are always so grateful for all the help we receive, as many events couldn’t happen

without it. If you are interested in becoming a parent helper next year, please contact

Mrs Wyatt in the school office to start the DBS check process.

Faith in Action Assembly

In assembly this week, Sycamore Class presented David Attenborough as a person

of strong faith. They were interested in talking about him because of his strong faith

in science, nature and humans. They spoke about David Attenborough's work to

sustain the planet and told the school about changes they can make to help.

Yew Class then presented Gandhi as an Indian activist who was the leader of the

Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. Gandhi came up with a

new type of action called SATYAGRAHA. Satyagraha means truth force and

involves never allowing violence and only speaking the truth. Gandhi led India to

independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

In the eyes of millions of his fellow Indians, Gandhi was the Mahatma meaning

“Great Soul”.

The Christian value that Gandhi’s faith embodies is to be respectful of others and to

be considerate of people’s differences. He also reminds us to deal peacefully with

one another in disagreements.

NSPCC It’s always lovely to hear from the various charities we support across the year. Here is a recent certificate of thank you we received from the NSPCC. Well done and thank you to all pupils and parents who always willingly support our fundraising events.
