Last Saturday the Weekender was once again out and about. The Town Square was where the action was so Rob settled for a quaint little shady spot under the trees and next to the rocks. From the mother nature air cooled environment Rob was able to wax lyrical about the wonderful local stores and most importantly spruik the fact that Churyl was outside Woolies selling those awesome VIP Bon Jovi raffle tickets...And weren’t they sellin’ like hot cakes! But it wasn’t all just talk and raffles, many a great tune was needed to play and most importantly of all...A legend to be found! Last weeks “Champion Business” was the “Nhulunbuy Newsagency” and they had kindly offered a brilliant prize of $200 worth of vouchers $100 for toys and a $100 for jewellery for our latest “Local Legend.” So a draw was conducted and a Legend was found...And that champion shopper was none other than Janet Staples, our latest “Local Legend!” Congratulations Janet and happy shopping!

Gove FM Enters Into CBAA Awards 2010!Gove FM Hopes To Go One Up On Last Year.Rob Stewart

Last year at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) awards, Gove FM were nominated into the top 3 finalists in 4 separate categories! Unfortunately they didn’t win top prize in any but it was a huge effort for such a small community station who were up against all the big city community stations. One fact that wasn’t missed by the CBAA was that our station received more nominations than any other station in Australia...On that Gove FM could be proud. This year we are again entering into the maximum allowed of 5 separate categories. The “Think Local” campaign is up for the “Excellence In Community Participation” award, “Gove Sports with the Weak Ends” is entered into the “Troy Garner Excellence in Sports Programming.” “Urban Control is entered into the “Outstanding Youth Contribution” “New Sounds For Ya Kingswood” is running in the “Contribution To Local Music” category, wish us luck.

Don’t forget that your one and only opportunity to have your say in the upcoming Federal Election is August 21. It’s a good idea to do a little research into all the contesting parties policies and ambitions. This should help, or confirm, which way you decide to vote. Try not to be too narrow minded about the other parties that you may not care for, and at least allow yourself a little time to listen to their side of the campaign. Ultimately however, it’s your choice, and one you should make for yourself, by yourself. Best of luck and may your favourite party win.
