Grace Upon Grace

The Diocese of Rapid City invites you to a celebration of thanksgiving for the Sisters of Saint

Martin's Monastery for their service, generosity, faithfulness, and prayers.

As we celebrate 5 years in operation as TSRC we wish to acknowledge the crucial role of

the Sisters in allowing this beautiful gift to be available to our Diocese and to commend

them for the innumerable contributions they have made to our Diocese and beyond.

Please join us November 20, 2017 for 11:00 am Mass with Bishop Gruss at the Saint

Martin's Chapel followed by a 12:15 pm Light Luncheon at Terra Sancta.

We welcome you to bring a card for the Sisters - they would love to hear from you!

Individuals who have benefited from their prayer

agree.  Though it is not always obvious to see the

results of prayer, we know the foundations they have

laid through this ministry have been overwhelmingly

helpful to us all.

Please join us in a celebration of thanksgiving for the

Sisters of Saint Martin's Monastery for their service,

generosity, faithfulness, and prayers:

The Benedictine Sisters at St. Martin's Monastery have

been an abiding example for us all of living the gospel.

Their longtime presence in western South Dakota and

service to our diocese has been a testimony of loving

action.  They have provided ministry to the Black Hills

for over 125 years.  They exemplify the Benedictine

values of hospitality, as well as the values identified in

their Articles of Incorporation written in 1895:

spirituality, education and health care.

Within ten years of being in the area they had built and

opened a hospital, 3 schools and an orphanage.  St.

Joseph Hospital in Deadwood was opened in 1897, and

a school and orphanage in 1898.  They started the

hospitals in Rapid City and Hot Springs as well.  They

also served the diocese in the roles of the first woman

Chancellor and as Director of Religious Education.

When asked about their contributions, Prioress Mary

said she thought the greatest contribution of their

Benedictine community was their gift of prayer for the

Diocese and the people of South Dakota.
