Sports fans are unique in that they often show a great deal of passion for their chosen team or favorite player. In fact, some sports fans even plan their lives around the schedules and seasons of the teams they follow.

When it comes time for birthdays or Christmas, buying something sports-related for a sports fan is usually a given. Even if they aren’t in the ‘super fan’ category, most sports fans love to have their interests represented when they receive a gift.

The key is to match the gift to the recipient’s personality and interest level, and to mix it up a little so he never really knows what to expect.

Tickets Any real sports fan is going to love tickets to a live

event. Tickets for many sports are out of a lot of people’s price range, so tucking a couple into a card for a gift would be a wonderful surprise. If he happens to be a fan of a team that’s a really hot item, you might want to consider splitting the expense with one or two others.

Of course, if you he lives in North America but his heart belongs to an English soccer team, you may have to switch gears and find some tickets to the next best thing, or consider another type of gift.

However, if it is possible to include the travel aspect along with the tickets, it would make a trip and a gift that would never be forgotten. This kind of thing may be more realistic for travel within Canada or at least within North America.

Memorabilia Every sports fan loves some good collectibles. Sports

memorabilia is a huge industry for a reason. Things like game worn jerseys, cards, photos, sticks, bats or balls that have been signed by a favorite player will always be appreciated.

You have to make sure that you buy your memorabilia from a reputable source to ensure the signatures are authentic. In reality, anyone can scribble a signature on a card or jersey and say it’s the real thing.

Even better would be to attend a signing where that player will be in attendance and see him sign it in person. The internet and tools like Twitter make it easier than ever to follow an athlete’s personal appearances.

Promotional Items If you don’t have a ton of money to spend

or the person you want to buy for seems to have everything under the sun already, you may want to consider a promotional item.

Things like bobbleheads, calendars, travel mugs, bumper stickers or keychains don’t cost a lot, but they will still show that you are keeping your sports fan’s interest at heart.

Video Games Giving sports-themed video

games as a gift isn’t for everyone, but if the person you want to buy for is in that age range and loves sports, it may be the ideal gift.

Most major sports have their own games, and today’s graphics almost make it feel like you’re right there while you’re playing.

Gift Card A gift card for a sporting goods store would also make a great gift

idea for a sports fan. This way, he can go in there himself and decide what he wants.

If you choose this option, make sure that the store carries a full line of sports equipment and accessories, just so he has a wise selection to choose from.

You never know if he is at that point where he needs a new pair of running shoes, a tennis racket, or if he’s been thinking of taking up a new sport altogether.

Sometimes, a person may not want to go out and spend money on equipment for a new sport in case they don’t like it, but they will happily spend a gift card.

Personalized Jerseys Sweatshirts or t-shirts with his favorite team’s logo is always

a sure bet, but even better is a customized jersey.

When you present him with an authentic team jersey with his own last name on the back, he will really feel as though he’s part of the team.

Real jerseys typically cost quite a bit more than a sweatshirt or t-shirt, but the effect will also be that much greater.

This is another one of those gifts where it’s a good idea to split the cost with someone else if it’s a matter of getting it or not getting it.
