ZONE REGULATION DEVICES

To overcome problem where VAQ station cannot be installed in situations where it is impossible to provide separate routing of ducts zone-wise due to architectural constraints. Automatic Pressure Independent Zone Regulation Devices can be installed directly at Supply Air Outlets or Plenum. Also suitable for fixed occupancy zone, will be integrated with room vacancy detector to realise energy efficiency by resetting minimum ventilation during vacancy.

EXHAUST AIR INLETS

Return and exhaust air is removed from spaces through these inlets commonly referred to as return air grilles and diffusers. They are mostly installed without collar dampers. For perfect environment, these should be properly sized and located and must be selected with least resistance to air flow and hence minimise air regenerated noise.

Control Dampers are used to cut off or regulate airflow in central air conditioning (heating or cooling) for low to medium pressure. Their operation can be manual or automatic (pnuematic or electrically operated) depending upon application.

3-V STEEL

Consisting of multiple 3-V blades fabricated in C type 6 inches (150 mm) deep frame with duct suitable flange of 25/40 mm with opposed blade linkage drive. The fabricated blades are reinforced with 3-longitudinal structurally designed vee’s. 3-V blades and C type frame are made out of 16(1.5), 18(1.2), or 20(1.0) ga.(mm) galvanised steel.

EXTRUDED AIRFOIL

These dampers are Ultra low-leakage and offer least resistance. Made of multiple heavy gauge extruded aluminium airfoil blades in C type 4.5 inches (115 mm) deep frame with duct suitable flange of 25 mm with exposed gear drive, EPDM blade seal.

ROUND STEEL

Suitable for round duct and opening. These dampers consists of single piece round blade with blade seal in a round frame. The dampers have bends at both ends for round duct connection. The round ducts present lower resistance to airflow and hence save energy.

ABSOLUTE QUADRANT

Used for manual operation of damper having 9 stops locking handle with thumb trigger and status indicator. The Quadrant should be accessible for control.

INTERNAL KNOB QUADRANT

Used for manual operation of damper from inside. Commonly used in fresh air intake or exhaust applications and return air risers.

EXTENDED SHAFT

Suited for manual operation of the damper from inside the room, typically below the ceiling.

2FIRE & SMOKE MANAGEMENT IN CENTRALLY AIR CONDITIONED SYSTEMS

One of the basic requirements of building fire protection as required by all building codes is the compartmentation or division of spaces using fire rating walls, floors, or other partitioning methods.

This compartmentation is intended to contain any fire to the compartment of the fire origin and thereby minimise damage to property and protect the lives of people living and/or working in the building.

Commonly used Smoke Control practices are:

Passive Smoke Control is simply shutting off the circulation of air and smoke through ducts or ventilation openings.

Engineered Smoke Control is exercised by creating pressure differences through dedicated fans & smoke dampers.

Staircase or Lift well Pressurisation is required to provide a smoke free escape route in the event of a fire.

ENGINEERED SMOKE CONTROL SYSTEM

Higher pressures surround the fire area and prevent the spread of smoke from the fire zone to other areas. In this application, the smoke dampers are motorised with electric or pneumatic actuators.

They can be controlled by a interconnected damper control modules with connected smoke or a heat detectors, or in a variety of ways by the building control system to accomplish the intent of design.

Smoke detector module, suitable for air velocities upto 2000 fpm and duct mount option is also available.

STAIRCASE OR LIFT-WELL PRESSURISATION

Pressure sensor integrated with smart Damper Control module is used to provide ultra fast pressure compensation when doors are opened during evacuation to prevent smoke back flow.

Multiple slave pressure sensors can be connected in a daisy chain for tall staircases with multiple injection systems.

Both bypass damper or VFD control are available as per requirements.

FIRE DAMPERS

A duct or ventilation opening in any of the fire rated partitions would permit a fire to spread from the compartment of origin to adjoining compartments.

Fire dampers are installed in these ducts or ventilation openings. Upon detection of heat, these dampers close (at melting of a UL Stamped fusible link or through a thermal cutoff and solenoid) thus blocking the opening and preventing the spread of fire into the adjoining compartments.

COMBINATION FIRE SMOKE DAMPERS

These dampers perform the function of both a Fire Damper and a Smoke Damper at a same location.

Combination Fire Smoke Dampers must be qualified under UL Standard 555 as a Fire Damper and under UL Standard 555S as a Smoke Damper.

The dampers receive open/close signal from an engineered smoke control system but close upon detection of heat from their inbuilt primary fixed setting of 740 C temperature sensor.

Optional fixed setting 1770 C secondary temperature sensor is available to over-ride primary temperature sensor to provide additional smoke control.

DUCT/WALL MOUNTED

Duct mounted dampers available in standard depth of 150mm, with flange of 25mm/40mm. Wall mounted options available with an integral sleeve of length 406mm/535mm suitable for 4/9 inches (100mm/225mm).

CONTROL OPTIONS

SMOKE CONTROL MODULE

This module has Photo Electric sensors. It can be taken out or put back in its housing by simply twisting in and twisting out, for ease of cleaning & maintenance.

SMART DAMPER CONTROL MODULE

On a signal from a Smoke Detector module, or a Central Fire Alarm panel it sends out control signal to fans, blowers and air conditioning systems, thereby preventing the spread of toxic smoke and fire through the protected areas.

ROOM MODULE (PRESSURE CONTROL)

Ultra low differential pressure transducer to provide a smoke free escape route and ultra fast pressure compensation with modulating fire smoke damper. Also helps in limiting the pressurisation levels below door opening forces.

In modern buildings contaminants, toxic gases, and volatile organic compound need to be maintained within the limits. Unmanaged concentrations lead to ‘Sick Building Syndrome’, reduced productivity levels of the occupants or even health hazards or illness.

A critical area of concern for any hotel is the ventilation and regulation of outdoor air in the guest rooms. It is one component of the total HVAC system that has to work optimally at all times.

This also is one area that encounters significant variation in demand on day to day basis, simply because of the occupancy levels. Therefore it becomes more prudent to look at this cost head and find efficient ways to handle this requirement.

For installations without a centralised air conditioning system, the requirement of fresh air for comfort and performance cannot be ignored. Therefore a small energy recovery unit combined with an IAQ monitor or multi-criteria occupancy sensor is the most suitable solution.

BUILDING INTAKE & EXHAUST

Demand control ventilation can be effective only if building intake & exhaust is properly designed and selected. This can be achieved by installing application specific architectural louvers, that allow air to pass through while keeping out unwanted elements such as water, dirt and debris.

Key factors in the selection of louvers are the free area, water penetration, and resistance to airflow. Other performance features are sand protection, sound absorption, back-draft damper for restricting air flow in one direction. Some of the special purpose louvers and back draft dampers for building intake & exhaust openings are:

Incorporates drainable head member and fixed horizontal louvers to channel water towards jambs which guide the water through vertical downspout for escape at the sill.

EXTRUDED BACKDRAFT DAMPER

Light aluminium construction suitable to handle low velocity, requires less pressure. These damper consist of multiple heavy gauge extruded aluminium blades in C type deep extruded aluminium frame having duct suitable flange of 25 mm.

ROUND BACKDRAFT DAMPER

Used in ventilation systems with round opening to allow air flow in one direction and prevent flow in the opposite direction. Consist of galvanised steel housing and aluminium spring loaded butterfly louver. With EPDM edge seals to prevent leakages in closed position.

CONTAMINATION CONTROL

Contamination control with room pressurisation can have requirements as varied as hospital isolation rooms, to chemical or bilogical labs, to protection of equipment in industrial ventilation. It helps in:

Prevention of surface discolouration (smudging)

Removal of odours and VOCs

Prevention of various respiratory diseases and ailments

Prevent spread of airborne hazards in laboratories

Protect patients and staff from germs

Facilitate sterile compounding in pharmacy

Maintain product quality for clean manufacturing

Prevent corrosion and maintain copper and silver reactivity levels

Key requirement is to establish the hygiene limit on the basis of Indoor Air Quality - Climate & pollutants within the space contamination, noxious gases and pollutants in the ambient air and then, optimised ventilation for proper IAQ & contamination.

Achieve desired air movement for balanced air distribution & mixing.

Remove infiltration and exfiltration - unwanted leakages. Thereafter providing necessary contamination control.

PROCESS CONTROL

Industrial dampers may be used to divert hot exhaust from gas turbine exhaust to recovery boiler, or to shut off process for maintenance, or to regulate gas or airflow in process control. Its operation can be manual or motorised.

Various applications of Industrial dampers are as follows:

Isolation dampers are used for isolation or shutoff in industrial processes with extreme pressure and velocity system. Dampers with tight seals and minimum leakage, having low pressure drop are suitable for such applications

Control dampers are used for flow control in extreme pressure and velocity systems. Dampers having better flow characteristics and control options are recommended for this application

Pressure relief dampers are used for pressurisation systems, gas fire extinguishing systems, internal spaces with explosive atmospheres or transformer substations

COMPREHENSIVE AIR QUALITY CHECKComprehensive air quality check includes Transient contamination analysis using advanced multi zone airflow modelling techniques and its validation using application specific mesh of portable Neural sensors in terms of:

Ambient Air Quality - Noxious gases and pollutants in the ambient air or generated nearby as per NAAQs, using wind pressure and contaminant data (WPC) based on site location, an initial building model is prepared.

Infiltration and Exfiltration - Unwanted leakages for zone to zone air transfer are added into building model using ASHRAE effective leakages table

Room Air Movement - for balanced air distribution & mixing, building air distribution for calculating air change effectiveness and proper air distribution is simulated.

Room Pressurisation - Positive room pressure drives air and contaminants out of the room. Negative room pressure drive air to flow into isolation room but not escape from the room whereas, neutral room pressure exchanges air and contaminants in both directions.

Indoor Air Quality - Climate & pollutants within the space based on interior choices as per Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), including nearly 120 such toxic substances produced indoors, their source, generation and decay rate tested as per NIST.

CONTAMINATION & CORROSION CONTROL

Different applications require different degrees of air cleaning effectiveness. In industrial applications, removing only the larger dust particles from the airstream may be necessary for cleanliness of the structure, protection of mechanical equipment and employee health and in some cases prevention of surface discolouration, in which case the smaller components of atmospheric dust are the worst offenders. Electronic air cleaners or medium to high efficiency dry filters are required to remove smaller particles, especially the respirable fraction, which often must be controlled for health reasons.

In clean room applications or when radioactive or other dangerous particles are present, high or very high efficiency filters need to be deployed.

The most commonly used control methods to provide proper pressurisation in spaces are :

Volumetric Flow Tracking Control Method: maintained by airflow tracking offset is provided between the air supplied to and exhausted from a room or space. Fast response in ~3 seconds.

Differential Pressure Sensing Control Method: maintained by adjusting total amount of air exhausted from and supplying constant airflow to the room or space or vice versa. Suitable for constant volume system. Slower than flow tracking, response in ~15 seconds.

Cascade Control Method: uses both the above techniques best but complex and costly to implement.

HYDROGEN SENSOR

For Electrical Safety in the workplace, building owners can find requirements for safely designing a battery charging room. This requires a ventilation system to exhaust air from the room to the outdoors. Since hydrogen gas is lighter than air in the room, it should be exhausted from an adequate height in the room. When its concentration rises to level above 4% there is a substantial risk of explosion.

Explosive gases such as hydrogen in battery charging should be limited to 1000 ppm for prevention of explosion.
