Clover Monthly October 2021 Sullivan County 4-H monthly communication for 4-H members, families, leaders, fair board, and council. Our 4-H community must continue to be one of respect in which we can all live, learn, work and grow togeth- er. Each of us, whether we are a volunteer or paid staff member, has an incredibly important role to play in the Indiana 4-H Program. You are here because you belong here, helping all of us to succeed. As an Indiana 4 -H Program, we are committed to establishing an environment where all people can realize their highest aspi- rations. All of us have a responsibility to support one another in that commitment. 4-H members, their families, 4-H volunteers, and 4-H staff come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Each of us has a unique life experience. Our program must be one where we embrace those differences by fostering an atmosphere where diverse opinions and differing ideas are not only allowed, but encouraged. We are deter- mined that 4-H will be a place where the concerns sometimes voiced in our community related to intolerance and disrespect do not apply. Let each of us take steps to ensure that each and every child and youth in our community has open access to the opportunities available through Indiana 4-H. Let each of us promote 4-H opportunities to our current par- ticipants and to those who might wish to participate with us in the future. One step that each 4-H Volunteer and 4-H Extension Staff member will take this year is to complete a train- ing titled, “Increasing Cultural Awareness and Equity in Extension Programs”. This training is designed to help us all better understand how we can work together effectively in an increasingly diverse culture. As we continue with the 4-H Program year, we ask you to join us in embracing values we all hold true in 4-H – those of integrity, respect, honor, inclusion, innovation and growth. Sullivan County 4-H Minecraft Club

Brooke is looking into starting a Minecraft Club for 4-Hers and 4-H volunteers only. It would be a private game that 4-Hers could only access at specific meeting times, and they would join the game from their own house on any device (Nintendo Switch, PS4, computer, etc). If this is something you are interested in, call the office and let us know to put you on the list, so that we can invite you to the game once we have it set up and ready to go. 4-Hers will only be able to join the game if they are enrolled for the 2021 year, and have paid their $15 dues. Contact Brooke with any questions, or if there are any volunteers who want to help out.

Consumer Decision Making Career Development Event Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 Madison County Fairgrounds, Alexandria, IN Registration deadline: Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 Consumer Decision Making is a contest based on consumer observation, comparing, and making fact-based purchases. A team of 3-4 youth are given classes to judge based on a scenario. Class options are ranked. Those selections are then defended through oral reasoning to a judge. Each youth participant ranks the classes and completes reasons on their own and the scores combined together come up with the team score. 4-H youth in grades 9-12 are welcome to participate. Individuals can also participate if a team cannot be put together. A coach can be a 4-H educator or/and approved 4-H Adult Volunteer. This year’s state contest will comprise of four classes on various small kitchen appliances and then contestants will give two sets of reasons on two of the four classes. Reasons will be determined the day of the contest. Youth interested in practicing and competing in this Consumer Decision Making CDE should contact Cheryl Casselman at 812-268-4332 or [email protected] as soon as possible.
