The summer program at our Hamilton Campus wrapped up on August 19th with a fabulous talent show!The students performed a variety of skills and choreographed performances that they worked on duringthe 2016 Summer Sanctuary Program, which is open to children ages 5-18. Singers, dancers, rappers,comedians and athletes took to the stage and brought the crowd to their feet! Pictured above are a few ofthe outstanding teachers and staff who organized the event (L to R): Rob, Durfey, Kyra and Tim…with asurprise appearance by one of our students who wowed the crowd with his dance moves and awesomeback-flip!

Area Golfers Tee-Up Success for Sarah Reed

This year we were very fortunate to have THREE special organizations raise money for Sarah A. ReedChildren's Center through their annual golf outings. Our friends at B&L Wholesale Supply (top left) haveorganized their annual golf outing for the last 20 years! This year they raised $36,670, bringing their20-year grand total to more than $500,000 for the children at Sarah Reed! The Millcreek Sportsmen'sAthletic Club (top right) generously donated an amazing $10,000 from their annual golf outing,and Widget Financial teamed up with Charities for Children again this year to raise $2,376! Ourheartfelt thanks to each of these organizations and all the golfers, sponsors and volunteers who are so

committed to making a difference for the children and families at Sarah Reed.

Up on the Rooftop!

This year we were able to complete phase one of a much-needed roof replacement at our ResidentialCampus thanks to the generous support of Erie Insurance, The Erie Community Foundation and theErie County Gaming Revenue Authority. The crew from Paterniti Malena Construction did a fantasticjob putting up the new roof over our school classrooms, gym and portions of the main administrationbuilding. Pictured above are our friends from Erie Insurance, who graciously donated $37,500 during2015-2016. In addition to their $25,000 gift towards the roof renovation, Erie Insurance also made anAnnual Fund gift in honor of our 145th Anniversary and an EITC contribution to help purchaseSmartBoards for the classrooms. Children's Center a wonderful donation of $4,500 from their 6th Annual iRock Charity 5K, which washeld on Sunday, August 14th at Frontier Park. More than 200 runners laced up their sneakers and bravedthe rainy weather to participate in this event, benefiting the 1,700 children Sarah Reed serves. This yearwe were excited to have 50 youth runners who took part in the all new Tot Trot! We Love Our Sarah A. Reed Women's Auxiliary!

The Women’s Auxiliary finished up the year with a gift wrapping party for the children at Residential. TheAuxiliary provided $1,000 for the staff to purchase items such as popcorn tins, games, cologne, and evendog bones for the pets! Each child was then allowed to shop for 5 gifts for their family or other importantpeople in their lives at the Santa Shop that was set up in the gym. Over 60 kids came through to wraptheir gifts with the women and staff. They were even provided foam photo frames to decorate and adornwith a photo to give to their family for the holidays. Everything was followed up with pizza from Valerio’s!Chris Iwig, Auxiliary President commented “The women really enjoy this day with the kids as it really startstheir holidays off.” Pictured above (L to R): Kelly Stolar, Bonnie Renninger, Linda Suminski, Jane Gohn,Cindy Mando, Chris Iwig, Marti Gehrlein, Kathy Eisert and missing from the photo are Mary Listerman,Robin Warner, Gloria Hosford, and Marlene Varholak.

Overall the Women’s Auxiliary has raised more than $5,000 this past year through their Holiday Women’sLuncheon and their Fine Dining Experience. Beside the Holiday Gift Wrapping Party, all the money isgiven back to the kids through special events such as bowling parties, ice cream socials, skating parties,Prom, Waldameer tickets, and they even provide funding toward school uniforms. The Auxiliary is alwayslooking for new members and recently were able to include 2 new members at the Gift Wrapping Party. The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance. That is trulythe feeling between the Women’s Auxiliary and the children here at Sarah Reed.

The Erie Elks "Elves" Continue to Make the Holidays Bright!

Every year, our friends at the Erie Elks Lodge #67 give generously of their time, talents and resources tobrighten the holidays for the children in our Residential Program. In November, the children wrote outtheir Christmas wishes and gave them to the Erie Elks Auxiliary for the Elks' annual Angel Tree. This yearthe members of the Erie Elks Lodge and the Elks Auxiliary went over the top in their efforts! We can'tthank them enough for helping to make Christmas so special for the children at Sarah Reed. Mercyhurst University's Hospitality Management students got everyone in the holiday spirit last weekwhen they visited the children in our SELF Program, located in the former St. Ann's School. TheMercyhurst students spent the day decorating cookies with the children, and there was even asurprise visit by Santa, who handed out presents! Thank you so much for making this holiday seasonextra special for our students!

Speaking of Santa...

The 10th Annual Santa Pub Crawl was another jolly success! Nearly 300 people donned their finestSanta and Mrs. Claus outfits on December 3rd and headed downtown to kick-off the event atSherlock's/Park Place. In true Santa fashion, they each brought toys and donations to make the holidaysextra special for the children in Sarah Reed's Partial Hospitalization Program. Special thanks to MichelleLanger and the entire Langer Family for coordinating this event each year and to all of our volunteers andparticipants! This year's event raised $1,542 and 160 toys for the children who participate in the PartialHospitalization Program.

Congratulations to Sarah Reed's Bayfront Alternative Education Program, which received thePennsylvania Department of Education's Promising Strategies to Enhance AEDY Academics Grant.Their programs have been awarded $47,052.12! The Bayfront Alternative Education Program is acollaboration between Erie’s Public Schools, Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center, and the Bayfront MaritimeCenter for students in grades 9-12. The program is a blend of traditional academic curriculum combinedwith maritime hands-on educational projects and activities. The Celebration Continues

Sarah A. Reed Children's Center was recently chosen by Pfeiffer-Burleigh School to be their lead partnerin the new Community School Program. This pilot program was recently launched by Erie’s PublicSchools, United Way of Erie County and corporate partner, Erie Insurance, as a way to improve thewell-being of students, both in school and in their community. Through this partnership we’ll be able toassist Pfeiffer-Burleigh’s 800 students and their families. To read more about this new program, pleaseclick here.
