CELEBRATING 100!

G reetings from Sarah Reed Senior Living! As fall turns to winter we are excited for the up-coming Holiday Season. Our staff is busy with preparations for this fun time of year and

we hope that residents and visitors will enjoy our decorations and the many special programs planned. Aside from holiday preparations you may have noticed some other projects happening here. This fall, work began on clearing some outdoor space on West 22nd Street across from the main entrance. Improvements will be made to that area for residents to enjoy some outdoor space in the future. Fun at “The Fling” The 25th Annual Fall Fling Fundraising event was held on October 26th at the Ambassador. We were very pleased with the outcome of approximately $19,000 raised for the resident special purpose fund! It was especially nice to have residents in attendance.

The event was a ton of fun with great food, shopping, and wonderful baskets. The highlight was the style show by Chico’s, and all of the models were Sarah Reed staff members. Special thanks to Brittni Collins, Debbie Redditt, Jamie Shatto, Patty Reidinger, Gabby Cruz, Julie Barrett, Cindy Wnu-kowski, and Kellie DeLuca for volunteering to model! You all did a great job!

We are grateful for the generosity of board and staff members and local businesses for donating items and gift certificates for the basket raffles. Thanks to the attendees for patronizing the event and for buying tickets for the baskets and auction items.

We hope to see even more residents, families and staff at next year’s event. Save the date: Saturday, October 24, 2020.

HOLIDAY MEAL RESERVATIONS

T HE RE E DER

Sarah Reed will serve our residents a traditional holiday dinner on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25th. Reservations are being accepted now through 12/18/19. Residents will be served in the dining room of the area where they reside. Residents without guest reservations will be served the holiday meal from 11:30am-12:30pm. Residents with reservations for guests will be served from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm. Please call for reservations if you plan to join us as we have limited seating. To accommodate guest seating, only two guest reservations per resident will be accepted. Reservations can be made by calling 814-878-2872 (Rebecca Baughman.) Should Rebecca not be available, please leave a message and she will call you back. Only reservations made through Rebecca will be hon-

ored. Please do not ask a nurse or other Sarah Reed employee to make reservations for you as we will be unable to honor them. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate walk-in guests or those without reservations. If you know that you will be taking a resident out for either holiday meal, please let Rebecca know as this helps us to increase our guest seating. Due to the high number of reservations at the holidays, we will be unable to provide any special luncheons or dinners on these days. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Holiday Safety & Health: Holiday Decorations: Any holiday decorations brought into Sarah Reed must have an attached tag indicating that the decoration is flame retardant. Additionally, live trees with lights are not permitted. We enjoy seeing the festive decorations that residents have in their rooms but we must also comply with safety standards set forth by our state surveyors. Thank you for your co-operation with these items. Stay Healthy: It’s that time of year again. We all know someone who is “fighting a bug”. Protect yourself with these tips Protect yourself from Flu, infections, and viruses by doing the following:

– aim for at least 7 hours

-balanced diet

Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth. These are portals of entry for germs. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently, especially after coming in contact with these potential germ “hot spots”:

Go Team!

Sarah Reed had our annual Department of Health survey in September which resulted in a deficiency free survey. Zero vio-lations!

Thanks and congratulations to the staff for your hard work and dedication throughout the year. Because of your efforts, we earned this amazing achievement. To put this into perspective – there are approximately 700 nursing facilities in Pennsylvania. During the first six months of 2019, only 25 facilities were found to be deficiency free. Sarah Reed has now joined this small group of facilities!
