I hope and pray that 2018 is a wonderful and powerful year for everyone! 2017 is now over. In it were some wonderful things and some dicult things, and I am posiƟve that this coming year will be the same. But whatever season we may nd ourselves, one thing is sure, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus and we can rejoice because of that! As we begin this New Year, I want to encourage everyone to connect with one another in our Life Together Groups we are oering. These groups are designed to help each person grow and move forward in our journey of being and making disciples, and/or being followers of Jesus. The model of the early church is that people would meet for large group worship and then also in homes for small group fellowship, learning and support (see Acts 2:42). It’s always been the best way to grow and move forward. This month we begin a new sermon series called “Faith and Life,” where we will take on some important topics that we all face and how our faith forms the way we approach them. Topics like: RelaƟonships, Integ- rity in the Workplace, Government, Helping Those in Need, and quesƟons

Happy New Year! I hope and pray that 2018  is a wonderful and powerful year for everyone!  2017 is now over.  In it were some wonderful things and some difficult things, and I am posi ve that this coming year will be  the  same.   But whatever season we may find ourselves, one thing is sure, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus and we can rejoice because of that!   As  we  begin  this  New  Year,  I  want  to  encourage  everyone  to       connect with  one  another  in  our  Life Together Groups we  are  offering. This month we begin a new sermon series called “Faith and Life,” where we will take on some important topics that we all face and how our faith forms the way we approach them. like, “Why is there suffering?” are just some of the topics we will dive into.   Each week we will  preach  on  that  topic  on  Sunday morning  and then offer a simple discussion  me for groups mee ng in homes during the week to take that topic deeper.  These Life Together groups are great plac‐es to get to know others, invite friends and people who are not connected with our church yet, find encouragement and prayer support, deepen your faith in real life issues, and also a means to use your gi s to serve others.   If you haven’t connected in a Life Together Group yet, you can get signed up now!    You  can  contact me  at pastormark@ctk .org or  talk  to Amy Nix or Hal Johnson who are pu ng these groups together.   If you would  like  to offer your home as a mee ng place or would like to help facilitate the conversa ons at these groups, we will be having an orienta on mee ng on Sunday, January 14th at 12:00 noon in the Fire‐side room for more informa on.   I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in our church as we put into prac ce what  it means to truly be and make disciples of Jesus.   If you  have any ques ons, please give me a call or send me an email.   May God bless the ministry of Christ The King as we move into 2018!  Happy New Year!     Pastor Mark

The Apostles’ Creed

(by Ma Chandler) This is a new women's bible study which will start on Tuesday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We o en for-get that Chris anity not only covers the globe, it spans two-thousand years. The Apostles’ Creed is almost as old, yet it’s s ll as relevant today as it was when it was wri en. The Creed has summarized the gospel and the founda on of our faith for

genera ons. And today, understanding the Creed can help us build our lives on good theology, clearly communicate what we believe, and give us a pro-found sense of belonging in the kingdom of God.  Sign up for this class online at: ctk .org/connect/small-groups.

New Year Blessings to You and Yours!

What  a  wonderful  gi   and big  surprise  the  blue  bags  of  food were  to  our  friends  at  Sharing the Table!    The  school district had  can-celled the  lunch due to the fires, yet the school s ll sent the “all-call” out to the families!   That was a blessing for us. We  had  collected  50  large bags, heaping with food, by Saturday and handed out 33 bags.  A few more heaping  bags  trickled  in  during  the week and we distributed the remain-der of the bags to our God’s Bounty student helpers at Vallecitos School.   They were thrilled to receive not only the extra, delicious food…but also our CTK bag!     We  cannot  thank  you  enough  for  all  your  generosity,  love  and though ulness.    Two weeks without  a  school  lunch  program  some mes feels  like an eternity when you’re trying to feed your children. Thank you for all your help. Remember…the Lord loves a cheerful giver!   Sharing  the  Table  begins  again  on  Saturday,  January  13th.   God’s Bounty is always the 3rd Friday of every school month.  If you would like to join us in either or both of these ministries, you can sign up in the Narthex (church  lobby).   We would love to have you!   Contact: Barbara McLean, [email protected]

CTK Member Needs Short‐Term Home    We have an elderly male who has  lost his home  in  the recent Lilac Fire.   He has some mobility  issues and a small dog.   He  is  looking for a  temporary, private place  to  live un l he can move  forward with new housing.  He would like to find a private mother-in-law quarters or casita.  If you can help, please contact Pastor Steve, pastorsteve@ctk .org.

Volunteers Needed on the 3rd Tuesday

of the month!

Brother Benno’s was started by Harold and Kay Kutler as a Soup Kitchen in downtown Oceanside.  They named it a er Brother Benno Garri-ty, a Benedic ne monk who was well known for his  reless service to the poor in the Oceanside area.  The first meal was served on October 21st, 1983; and Brother Benno himself made a big cauldron of soup at his abbey and brought it to the li le house that bore his name.   For the first few years, those who came to the Kitchen were mainly street people.  Now most of our guests are the working poor (parents and children who struggle on a daily basis for their most basic needs), the dis‐abled, and low‐income senior ci zens. In order to provide these needs, Brother Benno’s has expanded its services beyond food.   In  1991,  the  Brother  Benno  Founda on moved  its  services  to  its

present loca on, a 12,000-square foot warehouse at 3260 Produc on Ave-

nue  in Oceanside, which has been divided  into a dining room, full kitchen,

children’s  reading  room,  administra ve  offices,  shower  room,  clothing

room, computer lab, chapel, restrooms, and warehouse space.

If you would  like to be a part of this ministry, please contact  John

Ma son, jnbma [email protected]

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Brother Benno’s.
