Has The Priesthood Come

To An End ?

The priesthood was not abolished in the new

Testament but changed from being the priesthood

of Aaron, to a priesthood in the order of

Melchizedek, from a priesthood that offered blood

sacrifice, to a priesthood that offered bread and

wine

Page 3: Has The Priesthood Come To An End ?. The priesthood was not abolished in the new Testament but changed from being the priesthood of Aaron, to a priesthood

Evidence 1: Hebrews 7:12

“…when there is a change of the priesthood,

there must also be a change of the law”

We notice that the apostle here did not say that

the priesthood had been abolished. It had

merely changed from being the Levitical

priesthood to that of the order of Melchizedek

Evidence 2: The priesthood of Christ (1)

The priesthood of Christ is continuous, unchangeable,

and forever.

“…but made like the Son of God, remains a priest

continually” Heb. 7:3

“…You are a priest forever” Heb. 7;21

“But He, because He continues forever, has

unchangeable priesthood” Heb. 7:24

Evidence 2: The priesthood of Christ (2)

Therefore, He tells us continually, “Take and eat; this is My

Body..” and from the cup He says: “Drink from it all of you.

This is My blood…” Matt.26:26-28

If our Lord has been giving His body and His blood to every

generation, to every believer, has He been doing this by

Himself, or through His apostles and representatives, to

whom the priestly work has been extended ?

Evidence 3: St. Paul …A Priest

“But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of

reminder, because of the grace given me by God to be a

minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of

the Gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be

acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit” Rom.15: 15 – 16 RSV

If the apostle Paul was a priest, with a priestly service to

perform, how can it be said that the priesthood has come to an

end

Page 7: Has The Priesthood Come To An End ?. The priesthood was not abolished in the new Testament but changed from being the priesthood of Aaron, to a priesthood

Evidence 4: Christ as a high priest

“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling,

fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom

we confess” Heb. 3:1

“Although He was a son, He …was designated by God to be a

high priest in the order of Melchizedek” Heb. 5:8-10

Therefore, if Christ is the high priest, then those priests whom

He presides over must be the priests of the New Testament

Evidence 5: The priesthood of the Gentile Nations “My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to

the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure

offerings will be brought to My name, because My name will

be great among the nations” Malachi 1:11

And He said to the Jews in the Book of Isaiah: “And they will

bring all your brothers, from all the nations…And I will select

some of them also to be priests and Levites, says the Lord.”

Is.66:20 - 21
