ABOUT ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTION

Acute respiratory infection is a set of infectious disease that affects the upper or lower respiratory system (nose, ear, larynx, pharynx, bronchi or lungs).

It usually starts as a cold with throat discomfort, sometimes ear pain, runny nose, cough and fever often. These infections are transmitted from person to person.

MANIFESTATIONS:

Signs indicative of mild respiratory infection (not pneumonia) in a child are:

Cough, runny and stuffy nose.The child is breathing without difficulty.You have a fever but this is low.The child receives food and fluids.

IN CASES OF PNEUMONIA:

The child is breathing very fast and with difficulty, to observe his chest and neck to proudly that the spaces between the ribs and neck at the base of the sink with each breath (runs).

IN CASES OF PNEUMONIA:

You may have a cough, high fever, loss of appetite.The child does not receive fluids as has difficulty ingesting, can be very weak, sleepy or irritable.The child may have difficulty eating.

RISK FACTORS:

The factors that facilitate acute respiratory infections arise or become serious are:

Give only breast milk for food up to four months and combine it with other foods until year old.

Keep your child well nourished with a well-balanced diet.

Keep your child breathe cigarette smoke or fires.

Take your child to control growth and development.

The most important thing parents should know is to distinguish when mild respiratory infection pneumonia has become because at this time the child's life depends on how quickly it is taken to the doctor.

In a mild case (not pneumonia), measures at home most recommended are:

Keep your nose clear by wiping with clean cloth. Never dip the child in the nose oil, menthol or vick vaporub.Take your child's temperature. For fever give your child acetaminophen, and keep your child in cool clothes in a well ventilated room.Never rub the boy with alcohol to reduce fever (is dangerous because of the risk of poisoning).Do not give antibiotics or drugs without medical guidance.
