From Wiesbaden via Stockholm to Hong Kong: e Heinrich Köhler Spring 2017 auction set standards – in three locations ! With the 364 th auction from 20 to 25 March 2017, Heinrich Köhler of Wiesbaden has again enriched the history of the firm with many new records and unforgettable highlights, which will long be remembered on the philatelic scene. e fabulous material on offer in seven special catalogues, as well as in the main catalogue, was met with outstanding demand. In the end over 6.5 million euros were spent by keen collectors and dealers at the auction in Wiesbaden and the simultaneous auctions held parallel in Stockholm and Hong Kong. Facts, figures, data: top results and a look behind the scenes Just as impressive as the overall result were the “details” associated with the auction, from beginning to end, that Managing Director Dieter Michelson presented to about 100 invited guests during a gala evening on 25 March 2017. The material offered in a total of eight auction catalogues included consignments from four continents (Europe, Asia, Australia and North America). Previously 16 foreign trips had been required to obtain the extensive material, which came from vendors in 19 countries. Nine members of staff were busy processing the material and preparing the catalogues. At the auction, five agents representing 312 bidders fought some hot bidding battles during the six auction days. 120 telephone bidders battled with, among others, 192 room bidders, 462 online, 579 web and 610 postal bidders. The total of 2,266 bidders from around the world, who wanted to purchase one or more of the 6,417 individual lots and collections, speaks for itself. A total realisation of 5,429,917 euros, compared with total estimates of 3,864,410 euros, represents a ratio of an outstanding 141 percent. Altogether the hammer prices of the lots that sold exceeded the starting prices by an average of 96 per cent. Material totalling about 2.6 million euros went to German bidders, 1.65 million to European and 1.17 million to worldwide bidders. About a quarter of the lots and the sales were knocked down to online live bidders - a new record! This trend is continuing from auction to auction, and is based on the proven system of “online live bidding” used by Heinrich Köhler and the associated auction companies in the Global Philatelic Network. All good things come in threes: Wiesbaden - Stockholm - Hong Kong The fact that the auction house of Heinrich Köhler is able to set new standards worldwide, with successful auctions in locations such as New York and London, as well as the simultaneous auctions with John Bull in Hong Kong, has been impressively demonstrated in the past two years. The 364 th auction was another in this context, though on this occasion with two simultaneous auctions the sale took place in three locations (Hong Kong, Stockholm and Wiesbaden). The collections of “Sweden” and “Mail to the Far East” offered a “Europe - Trans-Pacific” aspect with many highlights and the participation of collectors in Wiesbaden, Stockholm and Hong Kong and proved to be outstanding, as demonstrated by the hammer prices. A courier letter of 1591 from the Swedish King Johan III to Queen Elizabeth I of England (Lot 6121) increased from a starting price of 4,000 euros to 20,000 euros. A cover from Welford, United Kingdom, to Macau via Marseille and Bombay with the rare handstamp “CARE OF MESSRS. WAGHORN & Co. / LONDON. ALEXANDRIA” (Lot 8060) reached a sensational hammer price of 58,000 euros (starting price 10,000 euros), to name only two high prices. A historical record was even set with Lot 5087. From a starting price of 15,000 euros, this cover with a “TULCA 90” seal-type postmark to Istanbul sold for 34,000 euros, which represents the highest ever price made by a cover from a Turkish post office in Romania! After the auction is before the auction The above-mentioned gala evening featured yet another highlight for the guests, in the form of a preview of the autumn 2017 auction. Amazement and great anticipation also resulted from the announcement of the sale of a collection of “BALLON MONTÉ”, taken from the 'Erivan' Collection, which will mark the beginning of future auctions from the possessions of Germany’s most important collector. Facts, gures, data: top results and a look behind the scenes

Just as impressive as the overall result were the “details” associated with the auction, from beginning to end, that Managing Director Dieter Michelson presented to about 100 invited guests during a gala evening on 25 March 2017.

120 telephone bidders battled with, among others, 192

room bidders, 462 online, 579 web and 610 postal bidders. The total of 2,266 bidders from around the world, who wanted to purchase one or more of the 6,417 individual lots and collections, speaks for itself.
